The end bit is obviously there as a red herring, I hope.
Haven't read any of the spoilers further below however the scene for me was a bit reminiscent of the end of Season 3 of Lost, when the penny drops and we see the first flash forward.

hehe

We are at S8. We should all be on auto-pilot when it comes to suspension of disbelief. It's a show, not real life. I find it remarkable that people moan about this still.

Enjoyed the episode. Liked the Lost-style S3 ending flash-forward. Perhaps this is the producers starting to put in place a closing arc, having seen viewing figures start to decline last season, though they were still pretty strong numbers.

Nice touch to remember George Romero in the credits, who passed away earlier this year.

(And also the stunt guy killed during the filming).

I liked it too. People complain that the series becomes slow and monotonous and filler episodes blah blah blah... so far, it has been non-stop action.

Yes the series is formulaic, rinse & repeat blah blah. We've known that that since Series 2. The fact that people still complain is becoming more annoying that the actual show itself.

As much as I have defended the show, it has become dire and boring. No character development, no storyline, just a wild west shootout.

Ratings have plummeted also pulling in 'just' 8 million viewers in the US... when they were pulling in around 14m in Series 5, would seem to suggest that people are now starting to desert the show.

The series sadly has become a cash cow - they could probably still afford another two series even if the audience fell to 2m. Is it too late to save it? Probably.

The last episode was "the lowest rated episode in the series history".

I quite liked the episode getmecoat

Took a second watch and the 80's cheese, the synth score, the bollywood style dramatics... it was quite funny and definitely a unique episode.

Of course you have to suspend your disbelief at times. But if you can, it was an 80's cheese-fest.

Perhaps jumping on the Stranger Things 80's good vibe bandwagon?

No comments on last nights episode? Have people finally given up?

TBH, nothing happened again. Just going through the usual motions.

To be fair to Rick, his tete-a-tete with Daryl could have gone better if he needed a friend to hold his hand.

For me, a brilliant review of the mid-season finale... I would imagine captures most people feelings on the episode and the season in general:

This sums it up beautifully:

Scott Gimple should be sacked. Not Chandler Riggs. Is AMC actually paying attention to he ratings? Fans are voting with their remote controls.

Get back to the character development, the Herschel and Dale's that brought a moral compass to the show. Right now it just laughable, characters that we don't care about, a storyline that is boring and also muddled... it is just become a gun slingin' contest with no one that can actually shoot.

Also great news! Scott Gimple has been moved upstairs from NEXT season... and Angela Kang (she wrote 'Still' and 'Try' - two great episodes) will be the new showrunner. Perhaps a tad too late to save the series?

I enjoyed that episode. Finally one that goes back to the essence of what The Walking Dead was all about. Emotion, the fight for good, hope.

That being said, Gimple killing off Carl and Glenn ultimately hurts the show in the long run. These were the good guys that people had an emotional invesment in over the years. It weakens and cheapens the show. Glad Gimple has been relieved of his showrunner duties next season thankfully and replaced by Kang - great move but sadly probably way too late to save the show.

He's been one of the worst characters since the start.
Worst? There are lot, lot worse characters than Carl. I personally thinking seeing his transformation on-screen from young boy to young man has been great.

Enjoyed tonight's episode.

Apart from the usual "really?" moment when Michonne goes to put out a fire on that pagoda.... a decent episode. Saw the more human side to Negan when told of Carl's death and told Rick what an idiot he was and that his decisions caused Carl's death. Can't argue with that.

Will Carl's utopian dream of everybody living happily ever after actually come true? wink

A bit of a polyfilla episode.

A great review here and sums up exactly my feelings on where most people are with the show:
