And so it begins...

So far it seems to be the same as the BBC version with a few new faces and adverts.

Yes, it is very odd. No enthusiasm at all. Toksvig is much better.

The format has been lifted and shifted with no real issues. Am not sold on Fielding yet but the others are fine.

The show stoppers are a step above the BBC ones.

This year they have actually picked the best bakers from the auditions rather than the BBC method of ticking the various ethical boxes first and baking ability second. Easily the best standard I've seen in the first show.
Yes, the benchmark is much higher. Their show stoppers were like the final ones from the BBC series and (in theory) it will only go up from here.

He's a bit superfluous isn't he?
He doesn't seem to add value and will the viewers even know who he is? They could replace him and no one would notice.

Fielding aside, I really have no preference between the C4 and BBC versions.

I would say the standard of bakers is much higher than the BBC ones.

Prompted the age-old question in our house though, as around these here parts a teacake doesn't have fruit in it! That's a fruit/current teacake wink

This is a teacake

Looks like a bread roll?

If a bread roll is a teacake then what is a roll? A bap?

Those mini pudding things would have looked more appealing if it didn’t look like they had liquid dog st in them.

Ah, so she is:

My observation still stands though smile

I have no preference between the BBC and C4 versions. I would say that the standard of the contestants is higher than the BBC version or they just got really lucky with the people who applied.

Given that the tent was like a greenhouse, you would think they would take the sides off or something like that to get rid of the heat?

I see the temperature in the tent came up again this week.

I assume they must take that into account if it causes an issue with the final offering rather than 'you should have taken it into account'?

Yes because leaking the result before it is aired is a sure fire way to increase the viewing figures. rolleyes
