So a new Picard series was announced a few months ago with the 78 year old Patrick Stewart reprising his most famous role as Jean Luc Picard. Set to debut on CBS’s streaming service in the USA, and presumably Netflix in the UK towards the end of 2019.

We don’t know a lot, set 20 years after Nemesis, he’s possibly no longer a Captain. And the destruction of the Romulan home world has deeply affected him. That’s it!

I’m looking forward to it largely because the idea of a post Nemesis timeline is appealing, as it hasn’t been done yet. But, in the same light, I feel we’ve seen as much as was necessary of the TNG crew, so I’m hoping it’s something new and different, as promised.

In a way it would be disappointing if it ended up just being a TNG reunion monster of the week type series.

Can we start speculating yet? hehe

You know what, you have me kind of half concerned. Is it just going to be how Professesor X was in Logan? An old fuddy duddy confined to a care facility, mind is a muddle. Riker comes to break him out to save the Romulan Empire? Because that would likely fking suck.

Picards cannon age would be mid 90’s in this new series....

I have mixed feelings about the characters, but we'll see...

Also, the destruction of the romulan empire??
Yes in the 2009 reboot film it is acknowledged the Romulan homeworld was destroyed by Nero, before he followed Spock into the alternate universe.

Nah.

Romulus was destroyed by a star going supernova. Nero was peeved that Spock got there too late with the red matter to consume the star / nova before it destroyed Romulus and his wife / unborn child with it. It's why his revenge on spock in the abrams movie is to abandon him on that ice moon close enough to vulcan so that Spock would be forced to watch helplessly whilst Vulcan was consumed by the red matter singularity.
Apologies that’s right, I got confused with the destruction of Vulcan.

Regardless, Romulas was destroyed in the prime universe- the universe we know from the past 50 years of cannon. This series is still set in the same universe. It is well known that CBS are currently unable to use material belonging to Paramount. Therefore we will not be seeing, unless there is a merger, any of the old ships or uniforms, things like that. It will be a different show with a different look. I very much doubt there will be any flashback to TNG.

Patrick Stewart has today announced it will be available on Amazon Prime outside of the USA.

It is still untitled.

I’m a Prime member, so pretty happy with that.

At least they seem to have got the uniforms right this time...
Yep, looks like a hybrid DS9/Voyager type uniform.

15 years. So about 4/5 years after Nemesis, then 15 years on. Puts this at around 2390ish. The TNG music at the end got me all tingly!

Extremely excited for this now.

Part of me thinks that trailer would have been more effective without the majority of the dialogue. Irrespective, looking forward to this!

What are the predictions on TNG cameos? I’m going for Riker as he’s appeared in DS9, VOY and ENT. Can’t imagine Data coming in unless they do some spectacular CGI/make-up!
I personally don’t think we’ll see any TNG cameos or any ships named Enterprise. The original lot have stated they haven’t been asked. The only original TNG actor who’s got a bit stty about it is Marina Sirtis (played Troi). We’ll see.

It’s been confirmed it’s set 19 years after Nemesis (the final film) So around 27 years since the last episode.

As well as Jeri Ryan and Brent Spiner reprising their roles as 7 and Data, Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis are coming back as Riker and Troi.

The trailer is absolutely perfect.

That's only 16 years, he says "nearly 2 decades ago" at the start. Could 16 years be his idea of nearly 2 decades?
2 decades ago refer to the events in Star Trek Nemesis, not the events in this picture.

Interesting to note that Picard's cannon birth year is 2305, and this is set in 2399, meaning he’s 93/94 years old in this series. Although it seems living well into the 100’s is normal for a human in the 24th Century.
