Some weekend fun.

We all know lots of surprise movie cameos from Glenn Close as a pirate in Hook, Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder and Matt Damon in more or less every film in the last ten years.

What about TV though? It’s got to be a total surprise though. If Brian Cranston turned up in Better Call Saul it definitely wouldn’t count.

I’ll get the ball rolling with Mark Hamill playing Bob the cafe owner in Man Down.

ETA attention seeker, seeking attention doesn’t count. So no Ed Sheeran in GOT orBoris Johnson in Eastenders.

I think at the time, Johnny Depp was the most surprising.

I reckon Liam Neeson as god is the modern equivalent.
Johnny Depp on the fast show?

What was the Liam Neeson one in?

Some really good ones. Especially that doc Martin one.

Just to clarify the rules a bit.

1. It’s TV not film. Otherwise it would be just lots of pictures of Matt Damon in different wigs.
2. Extended cameos or guest star appearances are okay.
3. A famous actor appearing in Star Trek before they were famous doesn’t count. (At that point they were an extra) they have to have be famous BEFORE the appearance.
4. Shows that are well known for big name cameos like the US office or Big Bang theory don’t really count as they aren’t really unexpected.
5. It’s TV and not movies.

TV?
I know....

Also Stephen Hawking did loads of cameos, so hardly a surprise (unless it was his first of course)

This isn't correct. Jim Carrey played 'Johnny (something)' and was making a music video singing to the G&R track 'Welcome To The Jungle'. It was being filmed by Liam Neeson in a meat locker so that the effect of the cold could be seen in the breath. Half way through the song Carrey goes out of sync with the track and Neeson cuts the 'take'.
Then he dies in his motorhome on site.
Watched it last week, as well as many times over the years.
