As it says on the header - what was the first filmyou saw in the cinema?

I think I was a bit of a late starter since, as far as I remember, my first was aged 13 seeing Star Wars. Mind = blown

Wizard of Oz, early 60s in the old cinema which is now where the Thorndike Theatre in Leatherhead is.
Green witch, flying monkeys, I cried, we left early.
apparently I had a similar reaction to watching it on the idiot box - left the sitting room and hid in the bathroom (I still don't do scary films - though flying monkeys are cool!)

Only in your teens?

Some here were quite grown up, relatively speaking, before they saw a film in the cinema.

Any particular reason or...? Just curious.
I suspect part of the reason for me is I was an army brat and dad was stationed in Germany for a fair chunk of time prior to '77/'78

Interesting! And something that would have given you a unique view of the world as a child.

No films shown on base, then?
we weren't on base either in Germany or (later on) in Ripon and I don't recall seeing any films on base - that's not to say I didn't but. You're right about a different world-view though (exacerbated by going to boarding school!) hehe
