For some reason while gardening this PM, I was meditating on general TV presenters who appeared to be almost omnipresent, and then just vanish. Not necessarily massive stars, just people that seemed to be on the rota of general presenters back along.

What happens to them?

Where do they go?

Examples:

Mark Lamarr

And the most random name that popped in to my head:

Irish ginger ubiquity Shauna Lowry; 20 years ago she was everywhere.

Any more nominations for random presenter vanishing?

Do we think aliens are taking them to build some kind of primetime TV homage on Mars?

It's a bit odd; it's like you see a random old-ish car and realise they have all vanished.

Suddenly you realise that without some sort of scandal, some ubiquitous celeb has just faded out of view.

I love reading the Wikipedia entries for people like this, because they damn with faint praise, by dispassionately listing people's jobs as they just fade away to nothing.

I suppose the last hurrah for them is the jungle one with Ant & Dec, or Big Brother, if that's still going.
That's the thing, most "celebs" seem to bounce along the sea bed doing stuff like this; it's the ones that just disappear I find so odd.

Didn't she lose both her parents in the 2004 Tsunami and decide to step back from TV.
yes

Her mum worked at one of my firm's clients IIRC.

Baddiel and Skinner.

They won't even get rolled out for Euro 2020 now either.
They haven't disappeared though, they appear on TV in a minor way frequently.

Russ Abbot a good one, I thought he was dead!

His Wikipedia entry describes him as moving towards serious acting, none of which he has done in over five years.

Can I add the delicious Michaela Strachan to that list, please?

Didn't she become a nurse?

EDIT, no she started as a nurse. She appears to have changed her professional name to Abigail Evelyn and become a serious actress with, it must be said, limited success.

I was going to add Chris Morris who seems to have disappeared for about ten years, but it appears he directed a film last year.

Ruth Langsford started on that too. I remember seeing her having a crafty fag while on a guest appearance at a transport show in Yeovil c. 1982.

Connolly used to be really funny around the 70's and 80's but became overawed with his own success. He's made a few stupid, remarks over the last few years. Went right off him myself.
yes

I inherited a big box set of live shows of his over many years on DVD. The quality falls off a cliff after the brilliant mid-eighties ITV "Audience with..."

Is he the extremely effeminate bloke on day time tv with the perfectly groomed beard and implausible tan and white teeth?

Was on some (I've no) talent show?
That’s him, although he drives a tvr apparently.
Friend of mine did some work for someone (away from any camera's) and ended up meeting him. He actually said he was a pretty nice guy. Not like his TV 'character' and chatted normally without waving arms drama.
His TV persona is annoying as hell to me, but as in many cases it does appear to be just that, a persona put on for the camera.
I know someone who knew him as a child. He was rather fat apparently!
