We all know of The Wire', 'G.O.T.', 'Breaking Bad' etc. What series out there in TV land didn't break through into the mainstream consciousness in the same way?

For me there are 2 that immediately spring to mind:

Banshee (although it seems very popular on PH) never seemed to be as popular as it deserved(?)
Into The Badlands - probably suffered from being part martial arts, part dystopian adult world (Hunger Games seemed to show the taste for teen dystopian stuff)

If we’re going back a few years, The Sarah Connor Chronicles was much better than most of the Terminator films. Lena Headey trying to save the world as terminators and resistance fighters keep coming back through time. Summer Glau was excellent as the terminator sent to protect John Connor.
Seems no one actually watched it, possibly because of the modest TV budget which meant it was focused more on the story. Cancelled on a major cliffhanger at the end of season 2.
absolutely this ^^^

I got hooked on Midnight, Texas a few years ago. Not bad and a bit different.
quirky fun - sadly too quirky for the networks, binned after 2 seasons frown

Rabidly militaristic? Really???

Anywho I'm really enjoying Detroit Muscle doesn't seem to have the same love the other car shows have, but is far better. Think Ed China part of WD without Mike Brewer - also only 30ish minutes long so ideal bite size

Beginning to think Agents of SHIELD by the lack of reaction on here to it finally ending after 7 seasons.
Sad but given that we're still not able to see it not surprising

That sounds quite interesting, and reminded me of a Will Smith movie called "Bright", which is about a world where fantasy type creatures exist, he plays a cop, who's partner is an ogre or Orc or something.

It was a movie funded and available on either Netflix or Prime (Netflix I think). Apparently Bright 2 is in the pipeline.
Bright got ripped by the critics - but I really enjoyed it (though it could have done with dialing down Will Smith)

'Sledge Hammer' from the late 1980's

Boardwalk Empire

Original Utopia

Red Riding

Preacher

Beastars

Brilliant Netflix anime about anthropomorphic animals living in a world were carnivores and herbivores live together and repress their instincts. Beautifully shot, very dark, and works on a lot of levels. Not suitable for kids (too much bunny rape...)

First 90 seconds sets the tone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kEeHJoYycMM
Good shout on SledgeHamme, have to have a look at some of the rest,

Ultraviolet: 6 episodes of UK vampire hunting. One of Idris Elba's first big roles.
And Stephen Moyer, who went on to be the vampire in True Blood.
I think I have that on DVD somewhere. Not watched it for at least 20 years. I remember it being an interesting take on the subject, but not something I would recommend as ‘good’.
seem to recall I quite enjoyed that.

Also Neverwhere was (IMO) hugely enjoyable (at the time)

The problem was not filling it with sex and ultraviolence and making him the pastor not the sheriff...

2 seasons on Freevee, is that all of it? https://watch.amazon.co.uk/detail?gti=amzn1.dv.gti...
Indeed, only lasted 2 series. I suspect some of the ideas were a little hard for certain yanks to enjoy hehe

'The Rookie'

It's not taxing on t e brain, or philosophical, or anything of that ilk, but it is enjoyable fare, more akin to TJ Hooker, or other 80's stuff, and Nathan Fillian is the same guy he was in Firefly, and Castle.

Easy fun viewing.
yup (by and large) feel-good TV
