Just watched in 4K and hdr. Pretty amazing in this age of digital effects how it still manages to look superb. First watched on bootleg VHS when I was 11 in 1979 scared the crap out of me then and still have the odd nightmare about Geigers creature even now.

Still in my top 3.

I read this when I was 11 (also in 1979 !) but before this last lockdown, the local cinema had it on.

Was great to finally watch it on the big screen will the full six track sound smile

They even had sofa's to sit on.
:-) When I read the book the bit that really got to me was when ( I think it was ) Dallas was on a walkway and the Aliens hand is reaching for him.

Love this film too. The first time I saw it was lying on the stairs peering down into the living room when my Mum and Dad were watching it.

I must of been about 6, but I remember I had all the toys but never saw the film, scared the crap outta me!

I would highly recommend playing the game Alien:Isolation, it does a fantastic job of capturing the atmosphere from the first films and plenty jump scares to go with it. Definitely in my top 10 video games of all time.
My advice is under no circumstances play that game !!! I bought it on release and played it for about 30 minutes most of which I spent in a locker. Apparently it can also be played in VR..... PTSD Time ....

Edit to say my version also had the Nostromo that you could just walk around without been .... Frightened... That was great !

Didn’t expect 7 pages of Alien fandom testament to how much these films are still loved.

Also in Aliens Hicks mentions 'another bug-hunt' when Ripley attempts to brief the crew. Ripe for an Aliens prequel/Colonial Marines movie...
That's another thing I really like about the films, they never explicitly state if there is other intelligent life in the universe. Bug hunt could be taken to mean they have experience in fighting other hostile creatures, or just a synonym for another seemingly pointless easy mission. Same with the line about the other colonists they encountered, maybe they weren't human, maybe it's a joke about them just being simple and backwards.
I always took that line to mean they were used to dealing with alien life on other planets.

Regarding the Queen, if the original Alien had been edited differently, we would never have had a Queen in the sequel. There was a scene where Ripley finds the missing crew members being converted into eggs. This would have explained the Xenomorph life cycle. This scene included a crew member saying “please kill me”, which was featured in Aliens (and another sequel, but I forget which).
Actually Dallas says 'please kill me' in the directors cut of Alien when Ripley finds him and Brett cocooned.

There’s a documentary on Alien that I’ve only just discovered. Well worth watching (despite the slightly odd opening).

Memory: The Origins of Alien
That was great a lot of stuff I’ve not seen before. Thanks for posting !
