Probably not a great film, but I have fond memory of "Water".

Michael Caine as lazy governor of some out of the way island, Billy Connoly as the local revolutionary.
yes I actually worked on that Rig back in 1989 , was owned by (BDF British Drilling and freezing based in Nottingham , the drilling sequence was filmed in Devon , hence the fake palm trees

The rig Containers should have been " Boldon Green " but were painted red for the movie , Billy Connoly got on very well with the rig crew

Just outside your window but 3 films around that period I only saw much later in life (as in the last 10 years or so!) that felt just as modern as anything made today and still brilliant:

12 Angry Men - Saw this mentioned earlier in the thread, simple premise but I was surprised how modern the dynamic of the film was. Well worth a go.

Rear Window - Again like the above it's a little earlier in time but once more feels very modern and its influence on many films that have come after it (outside the "remake" Disturbia which was actually pretty good) can really be felt.

Psycho - The only film that creeps in to your bracket and I'm surprised it's not come up (might have missed it). Even if you already know the plot (most will) it's still genuinely creepy with some brilliant scares. Like many Hitchcock films it's the blueprint of so much that came after it, not just in terms of storytelling but the actual mechanics of filmmaking.

The Birds - (can you see a theme here rofl) This one is well inside the '60s, like Psycho it's so much more than it's initial premise. Still great today.
remembered another one
