"Five people are trapped and 40 people have been injured after a tram overturned in south London, the city's fire brigade has said.

The Met Police described the accident in Croydon, just after 06:00 GMT, as a "serious incident".

Hannah Collier, who lives nearby, said she saw people being carried away on stretchers.

Police, fire and ambulance crews are at the scene and people are being asked to avoid the area."

Looks to have happened right on a fairly tight curve.

I find it hard to understand in this day and age why they cant have speed limiters on such sensitive vehicles. I mean if a truck from 1975 can be limited to 56 I am sure they can make a tram Vmax at any limit they want at any given time / location. Crazy IMHO.

I would have thought a mangled tram on its side was enough evidence to let a jury have a crack at it.

WTF?

So long as they ruled out mechanical failure what else is there to say?
