Best advice would have been to get out before the fire spread.

This whole stay in your flat is pointless imo. You can either get out while it's just smoke filling the staircase or wait for the fire brigade to try reach you by that time the route could be engulfed in flames.

In it's original state the fire probably wouldn't have spread and that would be safe advice. But being renovated and having cladding allows the fire to spread like this.
Still better to leave, Whats the point in waiting till it's to late to do something

If I hear the alarm go in my block i'm out of here, i'd rather be safe than sorry

Maybe i've been watching too many films but why doesn't the fire brigade use giant air cushions ?

Presumably you mean to be used as landing cushions?

Good question, to which I don’t know the answer.

The concept raises lots of questions though.

• How big would it need to be?

• How high would it need to be to absorb a 70kg + human falling from 21
floors?

• Multiple panicked people jumping and landing on each other
are just as likely to kill themselves

• Falling debris and heat

• Hindering access to the building and hindering how close
appliances can get to the building

• How long would it take to inflate what would presumably be 4 massive air
cushions? (you’d need 4 – one for each side)

Does the fire service actually have them for this use?
Good questions, I haven't thought about it too much it was just an idea that popped into my head
