Good on them, why in this how weather should boys have to keep wearing trousers, yet girls can either wear trousers or skirts? (Ignore the fact that this hot weather is pretty rare!)
School shorts can be smart, obviously sports shorts would be different though. As long as the shorts were schhol, grey or black shorts I don't see the issue.
I can remember being sent to the head mistress of my junior school because I had the audacity to sweat in class on a very hot summers day, never did understand it.
I remember only 10-15 years ago at Secondary school, having to ask permission to take your jumper off in class, and you had to wear your jumper as you walked into the school gates unless a letter had been sent home by the Headmaster permitting students to leave them at home...! I st you not.
I remember we all rebelled one lunch time, 100 + of us all stood there in 30c with our jumpers off waving them above our heads.
Dominated the school ground.
Worked though.

Ah, diddums.1976 was my last year of school. I managed to survive till the end of term in long trousers.
Presumably some of these boys will end up in jobs with a dress code too. How will they manage?
This is why people end up on zero hours contracts

We wore shorts at primary school then at big boys school, ( a grammer), it was black trousers, black shoes/socks. White shirt and blazer with school tie. If it was declared hot, then the tie came off as did the blazer and sleeves were rolled up.
In the RN when summer was declared the heating boilers were switched off, no matter the weather/temp!

A mate and I got sent home from sixth form for wearing Hawaiian board shorts (it was an 80's thrash metal thing), as did my mate. I thought I'd be a smart arse by returning in a suit and tie, but I wasn't nearly as smart as my mate, who arrived back in jeans, t-shirt topped-off with one of his mum's summer dresses.
I drove past bus stops a few days ago, on one of the hottest days so far and saw groups of school children wearing blazers and long trousers waiting for buses - absolutely ridiculous; school heads need to stop being such pompous arses and show their caring side from time to time. Perhaps I shouldn't be surprised at their pompous attitude; last Sunday I was helping at an event based at a school and the only room that was air conditioned was the staff room. In the hall, where we sitting part of the time, the temperature was unbearable but I was told the following day pupils were going to be sitting exams in there.

Bit harsh maybe?

People are soft these days.
