Interesting piece on the cost of a missing person investigation. Turns out it isn't as much as this case

That's because they don't generally have 30 murder squad detectives assigned to a missing person investigation.
And bottles of Factor 30 can be expensive.

In a newspaper story completely unrelated to this thread, a father has opened up to Radio 4 about his struggles with mental health after a traumatic family event some years ago.
The interviewee suggests that this might help other men in similar positions. So if you're ever in a similar position to the man being interviewed, feel free to be totally open and honest with any authority.

Funding for Operation Grange will run out at the end of this month. The current total spend is around £11.6m and has been funded by Special Grant awards. Special Grant funding is usually available to police forces when they face significant or exceptional costs.

Today, the Home Office is considering a further Special Grant application from detectives to continue investigations into March 2019.

I think the mystery will be solved. Someone knows and someone will talk eventually, if they don’t, something will be found.
I wonder if the other kids might one day feel able to tell their side of this story?

Ehh, they won't know anything as they were only about 2 years old?
They've been in the lives of their parents since then. They will have picked up on something.

In addition, aren't there more than a few seriously religious types in that group, not least the Parents themselves? Those type have a tendency to spill stuff due to guilt after a while.
Weren't they granted an audience with the Pope? Perhaps he absolved them of any wrong doing?

Updating this ancient thread.

In a surprise move, more bottles of Factor 30 sun cream and some new golf balls have been ordered by the Met.

Oh, and on a completely different subject, they are to be given a further £300,000 towards the investigation of a missing girl to top up the previous £13m already spent since 2007.

There's a series on at the moment about cold cases. New technology comes along and gets new evidence. I'm all for periodical reviews of old unsolved cases.
What new police technologies are there since 2007 ?
You just said cold cases earlier, suddenly now it's since 2007. I dare say there are better DNA and other forensic techniques since 2007.
I suspect 2007 is pertinent because that's the year a young British girl went missing in Portugal.

Why do people reference Surrey police, the McCanns lived in Leicestershire... I don't know why surrey would be involved?
Not only that, it's the German police who are conducting the search at the reservoir.
