Discussion
Some interesting reading on this page of recent retail failures:

High st fashion stores seem to crop up quite regularly.

Go Outdoors. Not sure if it's a nationwide chain. I work near the store in Loughborough. Huge barn of a place that's always empty and has a stupid discount card scheme.
Maybe Wilkos, too. They rebranded 5 or so years ago and appeared more upmarket possibly alienating their core customer base. This left The Range, Home Bargains and B&M Bargains to mop up all the customers.

I reckon it could be either;
House of Frasier
French Connection
New Look (overleverage at topco)
I also don't think Debenhams will last another decade....
Anywhere that's got long, inflexible upward only leases with market share being eaten by Amazon/internet or with an over leveraged PE house owner.

Maybe Debenhams, though I think we may see a few just scale back to a couple of key stores, rather than pop off.
WH Smith can't have much more time, but I've said that since Woolworths went
B&Q have scaled back a few i think. Debs have a good offering within those larger out-of-town shopping centres. Their stand-alone stores could go but most seem to be fairly busyWH Smith can't have much more time, but I've said that since Woolworths went
Argos could surprise us. Seem to be quietly opening small pick-up type outlets inside other stores such as Sainsburys in addition to same day delivey. They are probably analysing purchasing habits to see if people predominantly reserve online and if they tend to pick up same day or not. Will probably turn into more of an online store with same day delivery or collection from smaller outlets.

Agree with that. There’s one near Peterborough - sells too varied a product line (doesn’t seem to know what it is) and the discount card is w very weird arrangement.menousername said:

Argos are owned by Sainsbury's! A recent purchase hence the appearance in the stores.Argos could surprise us. B&Q. Based on a sample of 1 (me). My local one closed so now I use a small independent DIY shop.
Halfords. Based on another sample of 1 (me). I needed a new headlight bulb yesterday. £10 from Halfords, £2.88 delivered from Amazon.
Mind you, since my local McD shut, I do not go to them anymore. And I refuse to eat at KFC and Pizza Hut since their crap service pissed me off (I complained and they could not car less). But all 3 seems to be doing well, despite me withdrawing my custom from them !

Don't know how they keep going, always seem emptyish and I don't think I've ever bought anything in one.Its travel shops, at airports and rail stations, are performing very well. And the high-street stores are holding steady (and profitable).
