Article in the Times.

Iceland is looking at a proposal to ban non medical circumcision, to protect the child's rights.

Seems perfectly reasonable to me, Jews and Muslims are up in arms as that would make their ancient outdated practise illegal.

If they aren't cut at birth, does God strike them down with a lightening bolt?

If at 18 they make the decision to be cut, will God accept them or are they outcast for ever ?

In an era of constant offence, surely we should be able to ban this practise and move forward.

Here in the UK , it is illegal except in very specific circumstance to dock the tail of a puppy.

Yet it is perfectly legal to cut pieces off healthy male babies for no other reason than cult ceremony.

Spectacularly absurd, the physical abuse of male children should be stopped.
Yes but some dogs look much better without the tail....

It would make the process easier to sit down with the said religious groups, and try to get an understanding as to what problems delaying it until say 16 or 18 would actually produce.

If the Church can slowly and in some cases reluctantly accept a degree of Homosexuality, surely these religions could look to move the age at which you are cut, without fearing some punishment from god ?

Nobody is suggesting banning cutting, but just leave it until the individual is able to make that decision.

Otolith opined that the HIV transmission reduction was really not an issue for western Europe. I replied that even if that were accepted, there are no particular negative effects to circumcision, so there is no justification to ban it.

Nobody is suggesting banning circumcision.
