The French were in a program to remove the fixed systems anyway. They are moving to unmarked and largely undetectable and unpredictable mobile units.

So well done the yellow jacketed thugs. I expect the total number of hidden mobile units will quickly increase from 6,000 to many-many more. Way-Hey!
You miss the point. Speed camera sabotage is just a small tactic of the protest movement. The government can choose to ignore the protest and fight it, or listen and make the speed/revenue/priority argument more transparent and publicly acceptable.

Ignore the protests and act spitefully probably isn't a vote winner overall.

The French government have openly admitted that they reduced the national debt by €438 million in 2017 using speeding fines.
Accountant and politicians. No spin there, then.
