A gunman has opened fire in a mosque with over 300 people in it in Christchurch in NZ.

I'm seeing some reports that members of the Bangladesh cricket team were in there but this is unconfirmed.

I was going off very prelim and eyewitness reports so figures could vary.

One figure not up for dispute. He was an adherent of the 14 words. I'm not sharing his hate filled manifesto. But it was sadly typical of those who are rasicalised through white supremacist and anti-migrant propaganda.

Edit. Now appears to be at least 2 gunmen at two separate locations. One person in custody.

Response of a Senator in Queensland

Just need to point put he is only in there due to some archaic constitutional reasons - other candidates were elected but removed due to dual citizenship. He was never actually elected. He was kicked put of the right wing party he was in for being too racist.

Wasn't aware of that - thanks. I'm assuming he'll be out of a job next election?
Yes. He has lost the support of all but those who try and excuse mass murder because they were Muslims so it doesn't matter.

He had 19 first preference votes last election. 19.

I think I can see where Munter (candidate for the PH diplomat of the year award) might be coming from.

The NZ terrorist has killed 49 people. Around 2,000 people are killed every year in road traffic accidents in Britain. The terrorist deaths spark outrage, the traffic deaths do not.

Even the sentence above differentiates the incidents. The terrorist kills (active). The accident victims are killed (passive). One we are used to, the other comes as a shock. That shock after all is exactly what the terrorist wants.

Condolences to the relatives of victims of the terrorist incident, the road traffic victims and the B737 Max victims and anyone else who has lost anyone.
Probably because John, who misjudged a gap in traffic when turning right didn'tintend to kill Mal.

This piece of st intended to go out and kill as many people as possible.

No doubt we've got a dose of Islamic retaliation to look forward to.
If that's your take away from what happened today you're part of the problem.

Condolences to the families affected by this animals action and RIP to the deceased.
I for one will not give this the attention he desperately craves by watching the video.
How long could the Aus authorities hold the Queensland Senator in custody , while
they investigate the content, and intent,of his hate filled message I wonder?
Nothing will happen.

We (Australia) have a government that tacitly supports this through dog whistling. Race and immigration has been at the centre of every election since 2001.

In 2011 our current PM went on record stating that he would use perception of Islam to win votes.

We are a deeply racist country. Anning is just too stupid to hide it under the surface.

Yeah, stating the fking obvious is always the problem.
The fking obvious is that a piece of st, with 3 potential accomplices, took the lives of at least 49 innocent people.

The fking obvious is that gutless racists will use piss weak deflection techniques to minimise the loss of life.

The fking obvious is that scum like that create the toxic environment to enable mass shooters.

The fking obvious is that right wing, domestic terrorism, fueled by impotent little men behind a keyboard is one of the single biggest problems facing the west.

Do you get this wet when it's islamic terrorists blowing up children, or themselves?

Btw - I, and I'm sure @fast diesel boy, agree with you - but he's right. Sales of NZ flags will be going through the roof right now.
Your pathetic whataboutism just shows where your loyalties lie. And it's not with common decency.

Sorry to hear all of that, and how ironic from a Country populated mainly by descendants of
Immigrants.
The same people the mythologise a bushranger as a folk hero think all non-white migrants are criminal and should be deported.

NZ was a bastion of stability and reasonableness. A Canada to our America. That contributes to the horror and the emotional response..

I'd even suggest that the vast bulk of people who post on PH are decent people. Just look at the responses to the thread in The Lounge about my late wife.

It's quite heartening - and helps counter posts like that one above.
I'm really sorry to hear that Eric.

My condolences.

Not everything is about you.

Lose the victim mentality and attention seeking behaviour.

Stop trying to cause distractions to disrupt from the condemnation of right wing terrorism.

We see what you are attempting to do.

I can at least concede the starting point with, say, UK immigration but it's absolutely lunatic in the context of Australia and New Zealand. It's pure white supremacism and it simply cannot be anything else.

And we have posters trying to lay blame at political correctness and liberal policies.
It's 100% that.

Don't feed the disruption and distraction techniques from the sad racist.

He is trying to get the thread locked. Starve him of the oxygen he craves. He doesn't want this thread to be about the 50 innocent people killed by someone he shares political views with.

He wants to make it about he is a victim.

So let's remember those 50 innocent victims and don't buy into the cheap slanting match he craves.

Also, the shooter was arrested by a couple of rural cops using an unapproved method to stop his vehicle. They likely saved a few lives as well.
Just looked at the video. Wasn't aware of that. Two cops in one car took him down and they did exactly what they needed to.

Maybe because he is a hateful and deserves no publicity whatsoever. He is a nobody and it should stay that way.

Quite.

I'd wager that each one of those 50 dead individuals contributed an awful lot more to their community than any bigoted idiot that spout such hatred.

There's at least 90 Christian churches in Oman servicing the 6.5% of the population that are Christian (That's more than the percentage of Muslims in NZ).

18-20% of Kuwaiti population are Christian. There's lots of churches and even Cathedrals.

Saudi Arabia is a fundamentalist state but their treatment of Christians ironically sounds like how you want to treat Muslims.
