Mr Hammond plans to resign on Wednesday if Mr Johnson becomes leader
Announced it this morning. Thing is if ever there is an accurate symbol of dead man walking it's him. It has been obvious for weeks he will be sacked so why bother with his big announcement now.
It's as if he thinks it's wildly important he is seen to resign.
So he is either a pompous cockwomble with a high opinion of himself or highly principled or...……………….

Boris wouldn’t have him in his cabinet and it appears it’s a landslide Boris victory so being fired or resign it’s the same thing.
Not really, because now a transition can be planned.

I side with him being a cock. I think his announcement this morning was more about him being centre of attention than anything else.
I suspect he has done it to try to raise his profile within certain elements of the political masters than anything else. A man about to disappear would have done better to keep a dignified silence and avoid any interviews.

A few more will quit before Johnson sets foot inside number 10..
Hopefully they will damage Johnson & his cabinet of Brexit nutjobs from the back benches
Should be the shortest reign as PM ever smile

As I posted in the ‘Boris inept’ thread:

Hammonds resignation is hardly surprising.

‘Spreadsheet Phil’ is well regarded as a ‘steady as she goes’ Chancellor, who carefully considers the future of the economy in great detail.

A chap like him would never want to be part of whatever utter disaster Boris is planning.

His interview on Marr yesterday morning came across like a petulant school girl stamping his feet on the ground and not wanting to go school today because he hasn’t got his own way.
This was my interpretation of his appearance on the programme. He wasn't subject to any real depth of questioning (it's not Andrew Marr's style or ability). I do wonder how he would have fared at the hands of Andrew Neil.

[quote=Piha]I salute these politicians that are sticking to their beliefs rather than the mealy mouthed flip flopping populist scum that appear to dominate the main media channels.

Yea but your just regarded as the light hearted humourist in these threads. A sort of funny version of that one who used to post some months back.

I detest all of them equally and favour an entirely new system that will at least vaguely reflect the modern world and that is not holed below the waterline by the venality, self-interest and corruption of power-seeking individuals.
I sympathise with you enormously (genuinely no parrots or sarcasm)
It is just that the situation is as it is and unfortunately I can't see any real way to change it. Too many people vote tribally. Corbyns new politics is anything but.
Brexit was a case of give the people the vote they want and they will vote the way we want except the people didn't
