I can’t help thinking that yesterday’s shenanigans at beaches and parks and people flocking to Cornwall and Wales for a day trip means we are now 48 hours from lockdown.

I hope I am wrong but I can’t see it.

This is staggering what is happening to our world.

Like many I am dreading it!

I fear that the public simply won't accept a lockdown, the fatality rate for those under 50 without any premorbid conditions is less than one percent so a large minority of people will just go about life like normal.
I think within 24 hours they will when they start getting arrested or the army is out. It could happen

So does anyone know how long it will go on for?

My thoughts are that they are going to extend it on the 13th of April for another four weeks until the bank holiday on Friday 8th May to make sure people don’t go out on the bank holiday weekend and then maybe a couple of weeks further on after that but at least 11th May

The peak is supposed to be the 12th of April, if it happens so a month after that to me sounds logical. Of course, I could be completely wrong.

Of course I’m just speculating, but we need enough time for the curve to flatten before they relax anything at all.

I changed the date in my post as the May bank hol is later as it’s on a Friday so I think at least the 11th May

I sit here with a 89 year old who will be left to die if she gets this because of her dementia and her age, it is my actions alone that will either kill my Mother or save my Mother at this time, there is no other barrier to this other than myself and my actions ~ Quite frankly I am f-ing terrified for her.

My mother WILL die alone and terrified surrounded by strangers in face masks and green gowns, only two people will be able to say goodbye if that fate awaits.

The responsibility I hold is ultimate, I have never felt such pressure before, a year ago when she came out of hospital (having gone in perfectly fine with zero signs of what changes would happen to her) I thought that was hard re-aligning our lives to care for her, but now with this virus !

I rely on others to assist (as do many millions) to just keep her alive. YOU should assist all of them by following the rules because millions rely on YOU to protect them. No life is worth your wish to meet up with you mate (or whatever) for a drink, a quick cycle out for example or even a hoon out in the Lotus for some carrots.

One handshake, one "close walk-by" with just one idiot who met their mate for a quick drink round their place and who decides to go shopping with a temperature 5 days later etc etc can and has killed people, your action could present the ultimate grief to many and a lonely death for the victim of your actions.

It has taken young and old, the fit and the sick, rich and poor, it is indiscriminate, it cares nothing about your or my politics nor the ones you love or hold dear.

I hope for many things in life but for now I wish only the best health for ALL and their loved, I hope many who scoff understand the finality for many who come in contact with this because of their actions.

Everyone should regard themselves as a threat to other peoples lives, YOU could be a loaded gun pointed at the head of the ones you love...PUT the safety catch on !

That my friend is an excellent post and I am sorry for what you are going through, that hit home. I am an NHS volunteer and am following this with the same effort as you are but it is a bit dusty in here!!!

Well said and good luck to you and your Mum, stay safe!

I think it will be four weeks as that takes us until 12th May as there is a bank holiday on Friday 8th.

They won’t relax things just before a bank holiday , makes no sense.

Fcensoredck, that's the highest so far. Are we "playing catch up" for the weekend though?
Tomorrow will be well over 800 I reckon
Wasnt Easter Monday touted as the potential highest day ?
Yes they are still saying this weekend should be the peak.

French President has this evening extended their lockdown until 11/5.
Can imagine that we might be close to that (after our Bank Holiday) for a very limited relaxation.
I have no doubt they will give the same date on Thursday.

Bank hol on the 8th so no chance before then

It will be odd - playing a sport at a high level you get a totally different audio environment to watching it on tv or even in the stands.

At the highest levels, the verbal communication between players, both between your team and between teams, is almost constant in a lot of team sports, but you rarely hear it over the noise of the crowd unless you're in the middle of it.

Hopefully, some of that will come across in the empty stadium games.
In Scotland we are used to it. Get past Celtic, Rangers, Hibs, Hearts, Aberdeen and Motherwell and even Premier League games are woefully attended.

Try seeing a Livinstone vs Hamilton Accies on a wet and windy Wednesday evening.

On the subject of verbal communication one of the funniest things I've witnessed on an televised game in an empty echoey stadium was a forward named Davey trying to dribble through a packed defence while a team mate was running wide and clear on the wing.

As he was making the off the ball run the winger could clearly be heard shouting "Man on. Davey, Davey, Davey, DAAAAAVEEEEYYY!!!...." and after Davey was tackled, lost the ball and the threat on goal was over "AW FOR fkS SAKE DAVEY".

Later in the game the commentator apologised for those of us who nay have been offended.

Went out for a nice walk round the greener parts of East London today and traffic seemed up a little and everybody was abiding to distancing, but other than that it felt like a normal Spring day.

The woodpeckers were noisy, mind.
Not heard one in years but it’s so quiet here now I have heard them most days on my walks. Sounds like the creature in predator in the jungle!!

I know what you mean mate, I haven't seen my missus for 8 weeks as we don't live together.
I am not sure I could have done that for 8 weeks if there was minimal risk but easy to say that sat here on my own.

This, as I live on my own I was really getting my hopes up that limited close friends and family was Sunday’s announcement. Now I’m getting a horrible feeling that it’s to tell me I can sit on a park bench for 15 minutes and that my local garden centre will be open. That would be Pathetic.
With you 100%. I just spent 4 hours on my front garden talking to my neighbours for VE Day from 20 feet away but I can’t walk to my friends house 2 miles away and do the same. It seems ludicrous.

No it’s not but I am trying to do my bit that is all but I am getting very down with it being single, it’s tough but I would rather not get it. There is a lot worse off, I am not even ill.

How will you 'get it' by walking 2 miles and talking to people at a distance? More importantly how will a government announcement on Sunday change the risk of what you want to do.

O/T the frustration for me is that 99% of the population seem incapable of making their own decisions and are awaiting guidance. Where does it end? An app where you ask permission to have a poo?
With you 100% as there is minimal risk. No more than talking to my neighbours and far less than going to Tesco’s.

My point was I was following the guidance. If we all did it there would be no lockdown if everyone did that.

Exactly my point. The 'guidance' seems to be designed for idiots who are too simple to understand how a virus spreads, in other words treating people like children.

Other countries are treating people like adults are are asking them to make simple, risk based decisions to reduce infection rates, especially among the at-risk groups.

If there is to be an ongoing consensus we need transparency, otherwise public support will evaporate.
Well talking to 6/7 different neighbours today or clearly has.

Sorry typo, have corrected, should have said “talking” to my neighbours.

It’s evaporated as you say. They aren’t sticking to the rules any of them

I am in two minds with the new guidance. For someone who is single and not seeing my girlfriend for a few weeks, I will now see her as the risk is minimal and worth it. It’s been very difficult.

I will also see my friends, sitting in the garden keeping social distancing but having a beer.

What I won’t do is put my parents in any undue danger, I will continue to do the shopping and leave it at the door.

I’m only expanding my circle by one person and her too. That’s all I want right now, the pubs restaurants theatres cinemas and bars can wait but we need a bit of normality now but some people will be stupid and drop the 2 m rule and think its life back to normal so I think they’ve got it very wrong
