Ok I live in Zone 1/2 London so understand the overheads are a lot more punchy they say arse end of nowhere.

But today a line has been crossed. £7.50p for a pint at the bar from the pump.

I’ve noticed pubs round my way remain a lot less busy. Well I cannot justify these new exorbitant prices.

Wetherspoons it is if I want a few beers!!!

I believe it’s cheaper in Mexico….
Actually I was flat hunting in Eastern Europe a few weeks ago.

£2 a pint there.

Will advise on Mexico when I get there!

Where was that?
That’s expensive - I pay around 6-7zl when I’m in Poland. That’s about £1.20 or so.
Budapest Jewish quarter.

I’d say 50% of usual custom.

But it is January and we have convid still hanging about.

A guy at the bar when I was paying also protested with he got his bill!

Everything is going through the roof.

My pal has a new Caterham on order and he’s been informed the base price is up £3k and the same for options.

This is what happens when you have ZIRP, free furlough money, brutal QE and a worthless FIAT pyramid ponzi debt based currency system.

We’re getting into a strange place. I think the the great unwashed are going to apply a bit of their own “Laffer Curve” and simply not piss money (literally!) away on £7.50 pints in a pub.

Where we are now is invariably the fallout from the Convid project.

Maybe the government wants to inflate away the national debt?!!!

Pubs should be like petrol stations and have the price per pint displayed in neon on a pole outside the front door.
Great idea!

I used to go to a pub called Shannon’s on the Portobello Road. About £2.50 a pint. Great bunch of punters from all walks of life. Pretty much the last old school Notting Hill boozer.

Until that is it became a naff sushi bar..

http://ukai.co.uk/

The boozer I refer to buy the way is the Cock and Bottle.

Which was another tatty pub before a tidy up under new owners.

The bottom line is the line has been crossed for me.

It’s simply too much. I’ll buy three big bottles of Bud from Tescos for a fiver and stay in!

That's the way it used to be done
Interest rates at 8 or 10 %
Kept the lid on house prices. £250k mortgage at 10% anyone?
Savers got a decent return rather than buying up every cheap property around as their savings return nothing.

The pub industry is in decline.
Younger generations drink less
Supermarkets undercut them taking away huge volumes of sales
Property developers are circling picking off the weak
The days of wet sales local pubs serving half a dozen regulars are over
Doesn’t work like that anymore does it??

The average mug punter needs ZIRP like oxygen!

Put up interest rates to say a healthy 5% and most debt junkies will go bust. Asset bubbles will implode.

Even the government needs ZIRP to service its Ponzi FIAT debt.

Basically we’re fked. Until the WEF releases cyber covid and the economy implodes. Then we get digital centralised currency. Maybe…

And how many others have made that decision? Sounds like a fair proportion having seen have much they’ve saved during lockdown enjoying a few drinks at home instead. Coupled with the price increases when the world opened up.

The question is then with so many turning their backs, prices will surely have to rise further to cover the drop in footfall. And then repeat..
Correct. The same is applicable to eating out.

A pizza and soft drink in a non chain Italian will be £20 with tip. No starter or dessert or booze!

Again it’s too much.

We all knew this was coming.

Oh well. A simple life is a happy life!

Just realised the thread title is ambiguous.

'I'm out' could mean 'I'm going to the pub'.

Or it could mean 'I'm not going to the pub any more.'
It means I’m not going to the pub on an as regular basis that I used to.

I love the Cross Keys.

It’s a stunning building.

The Spoons near my parents in Fairlop (Barkingside Fullwell Cross) is your typical Spoons.

You get an eclectic bunch in there. Most punters are shall we say “agricultural” but they are generally harmless. The food again is acceptable.

Another good Spoons is on Loughton High Road.

I think the setting is important…

I was heading home yesterday and thought do I fancy a pint? Probably two.

I thought £7.50 could buy me a takeaway dinner so I swerved. £15 was too much.

So I’ve not relented…

As the original OP I can confirm it gets worse.

Walked from London city to the West End Monday with a pal I’d not seen in 20 odd years.

We both didn’t want a beer but wanted to sit down. We stopped at the Three Crowns off Jermyn Street.

I had a pint of orange and lemonade and he has a bottle of Coke.

That came in just under a fking tenner!

WTF?!! I said to the extremely camp bar tender surely there must be some mistake?! No!

These places can go fk themselves.
