Blackpool footballer comes out as gay
Discussion
Must admit when I saw this my first reaction was "so what?" but reading a little further this seems like it's still a bit of a no go area in professional football.
Jake Daniels: Blackpool player says coming out is 'a massive relief'
That takes some massive guts to do at 17 years old

Quite. Maybe daimlerv8 might like to remind himself what married straight man, Graeme Le Saux went through during his career because of the dark ages attitude to sexuality that dominates football….

Now that's a compelling and sobering read.https://thesefootballtimes.co/2019/01/31/graeme-le...

I haven’t read all the thread but just wanted to say wouldn’t it be great if we get to a time when people don’t have to come out?
I know at present it is about acceptance and helping others but at some point in our timeline hopefully not too far away it simply won’t matter and everybody is just accepted for who they are.
Why should you have to declare your sexuality, It is of nobody’s concern but yours?
As I say we are still some way off so people who are do come out in our prejudiced world are brave but at some point I hope we don’t need bravery as it simply won’t be an issue. Maybe not in my generation but I hope for the following generation.
Yes it would be but we're not there yet sadly.I know at present it is about acceptance and helping others but at some point in our timeline hopefully not too far away it simply won’t matter and everybody is just accepted for who they are.

I don't think it's right people have to live their lives in fear of some scumbag newspaper running "Blackpool footballer leaves gay nightclub with mystery man exclusive" and it's that sort of sthousery that might be part of his or others decision making.
I didn't say anything about "let's go and smash up a gay" did I?
The thread is easy enough to find and it's 50 odd pages because a company changed their logo to Pride colours in a show of support.
Seems kind of relevant when people ask why this brave lad chose to do what he did or why it's even being reported as news.

Not literally, but a part of me thinks a part of you would be in absolute HEAVEN if they did. And I'd be in "absolute HEAVEN" if when events like this came about everyone simply said "good lad".
