Libyan troops have opened fire with machine-guns and large-calibre weapons on anti-government protesters in the second city Benghazi, witnesses say.
An unknown number of people, including children, are said to have been killed.
Witnesses described scenes of chaos as snipers shot from the roofs of buildings and demonstrators fought back against troops on the ground.
A doctor at a local hospital said he and his colleagues were treating hundreds of injured protesters.
So much for UK gov "managing" an important oil deal with this murderous, barbaric regime.

This. Sorry but not my problem. I can't fix it, or do anything about it.
Or the value of the "PH collective" shares portfolios tumbling? It may well affect us all, either in the short term until the dissenters are liquidated, or in the long term when (if) a regime change takes place and they remember those who supported said regime.....

What's with the attempt to try and guilt us, the UK, with the actions of Libya?
And if you are going to get on your high horse, at least have the decency to spell the name of the country correctly. Then we'd think you were some way current on Libya's history, rather than jumping on some guilt bandwagon.
Well I did a spelling mistake. Oops sorry. And if you are going to get on your high horse, at least have the decency to spell the name of the country correctly. Then we'd think you were some way current on Libya's history, rather than jumping on some guilt bandwagon.
No. Neither I nor my country of birth have the slightest feeling of guilt over events in Libya, in fact just the opposite.
Right just off to kick the Arse out of the spell checker........

I think that if you actually knew what happened leading up to the release of Al Megrahi, including the coaching that Jack Straw gave Libya, you would not be so flippant with your comments.
If you have followed the Lockerbie case, about the only thing that could be said about guilt is that Al Megrahi wasn't involved, the case stunk, and there is a line of thought that he was released before an Appeal brought to light pretty damming evidence about the involvement of others. (Clue - Capitol city = Washington DC.)

I'm making the point that most folk will be blaming the Coalition/Cameron/Hague when in fact they will not be the ones organising the expats for evacuation and chartering planes etc - that is the job of the civil servants working in the FCO, who appear to have dropped the ball somewhat.
Oh no that can't be right, you mean a civil servant has to Take An Accountable Decision? no no no.Victor McDade said:

OK, the U.S. has frozen the Colonel's assets and seized his New Jersey mansion. Reports this morning point to $4.8 Billion that he slipped through the Swiss to his wealth manager in a London firm who is safeguarding it for him. What are your laws if this turns out to be true? Can it be seized? Should it?
I think we're treading a very dangerous path when it comes to accepting or refusing whose money we are willing to take. If money is being used to fund terrorism, genocide etc then sure seize it.Edited by Jimbeaux on Saturday 26th February 14:35
But should we really stop dealing with people who plunder from their own state and then want to deposit funds with us. Berlusconi, Putin, the Arab Kings, the Ugandans, Nigerians.....where does it stop?
Putting his past terrorism sponsorship to one side (after all we were happy to do this in '05) what has he actually done which say our Chinese or Burmese friends haven't? Locked up political opponents, killed peaceful protesters, murdered opponents of the regime etc? But we're happy to deal with one and not the other?

A good post on PPRUNE on Cameron.
"He launched a PR coup with aeroplanes which are scheduled to be scrapped earlier than planned, flown from a base due to be closed this year, by crews who are waiting for possible redundancy notices.
They were also supported by ships which were returning to base to be scrapped and their crews are waiting for possible notices of redundancy.
Now he wants to police a No Fly zone with aircraft which may soon be scrapped, flown by crews who are waiting on possible redundancy notices, from UK bases which may possibly be closed soon. "
Just read that. How true and how sad."He launched a PR coup with aeroplanes which are scheduled to be scrapped earlier than planned, flown from a base due to be closed this year, by crews who are waiting for possible redundancy notices.
