I'm struggling because I've always been quite tight frugal, so I don't get to make all the savings that everyone else can.
Same here, I honestly could not think of anything else I could do to save money that I am not doing already. Infact, after 20 years of driving sheds I have actually ordered a brand new car to replace it because I was not prepared to pay the crazy second hand prices. However, being tight it is a Dacia Sandero and man maths means after putting down the £5K I was going to spend on a car anyway, it is £72 a month.

I recently started buying the Tesco 55p a box tea, primarily because I can't really tell any difference between it and the Yorkshire tea I used to buy.

If anything I have started going out a bit more than before, purely as at 48 I have started to realise that life is too short.

I've noticed a lot of Boxsters coming up for sale. I've been considering buying an earlyish 3.2S (until this weeks share price drop of some of my portfolio). The prices over the last few months have been pumped up but I note now that the higher priced stuff isn't selling. Maybe they aren't inflation proof after all.
I have been toying with the idea of getting one as a weekend car for years, but I have now accepted this is never going to happen. I suspect the people who bought them to do the same, rarely drive them and are sick of insuring, taxing and paying for repairs on something they hardly use.

I borrowed a 987 3.2S for a few weeks years ago and I seem to remember I got 18 MPG whist I had it. If I had one I cannot imagine I would really want to put £100 of fuel in it to drive around aimlessly and get 18 MPG so it would never get used.

I am sure people were quite happy to have them sitting in the garage when they were appreciating in value each year.

Has someone crossed the streams or something?

Someone using data as evidence on Pistonheads! This place has changed.

My mother not only switches everything “off at the wall” she also unplugs everything.

She ran a 150W halogen up-light for 8 years from dusk to bedtime until I took it to the recycling centre.
Could be worse. A friend of mine used to work for a bloke who regularly had a rant about extension leads being used around his business workshop by employees. He was convinced that when you used a long extension lead then unplugged it and put it away, it would still be 'full' of electricity along its length which would be wasted. It would leak out or dissipate somehow whilst the lead was hung up, and then when you used it again the electric would have to 'fill' the extension lead again.

If we are being pedantic, yes, extension leads do waste some electricity in heat (depending on the current, wire thickness, etc) but they clearly do not waste electricity in the way he would describe...

I had visions of the bloke saying stuff like "I came into work this morning and there was electricity all over the floor..."

I'm buying the cheapest dishwasher tablets, and breaking them in half for a load. Haven't noticed any difference whatsoever in how clean the dishes (or the washer) are.
In the meantime the current Mrs D is still using the tumbledryer at her place despite it being mid-30s outside.

Dont marry that one.
I'm going with 'endearingly scatty' rather than 'full on mental' but only time will tell.
