When can I get a mortgage?

I have just finished my degree and I start my full time job on 1st June at a company I have been working part time for since last summer.

At what point would a lender even consider me for a mortgage? Would I need 3 months full time payslips?

I've just been on the phone to RBS who have said that they would be unwilling to provide a mortgage until i'm over my probationary period at work (6months).

Is this standard across other providers?
