Fitting stair runner on winders
Discussion
Hi gang
I am looking to fit a runner to my stairs instead of carpet. Old carpet has been lifted and I have almost finished sanding the stairs (pain in the arse) ready to varnish, so now I am looking to fit the runner.
I plan to fit it myself (as I normally can't stand to part with money for something I can do myself. What I can't get me head around is how the runner works on the winders.
Due to the angle on the winders, as the runner hits the first winder it gets cut off at an angle (whilst being parallel to the stringers). The runner is then fitted to the riser, but, due to the angle, the width of the carpet at the nose of the tread is now wider than the width of the runner to be fitted to the riser.
How is this normally dealt with? I am sure there must be a trick of the trade, but a google search hasn't really shed any light on this issue.
Thanks
Lewis
