Or is this the norm? Below is what i’ve Just received. It’s just for the automation of a normal wooden gate for a drive. Thoughts and opinions gratefully received and if you happen to be able to recommend another firm in the north Oxfordshire/ south Warwickshire area that would be great.

Automation of Gates

To supply and install appropriate cable to the garage area and install the automation system which can be controlled for entry/exit using the radio key fobs only.

Description of Automation

A set of closing safety beams will be located outside of the gates. These will be mounted on the gate piers and the beams will prevent the gates from closing should it detect an obstruction.
A set of closing/opening safety beams will be located inside of the gates. These will be mounted on small wooden posts and the beams will prevent the gates from closing should it detect an obstruction.
An electronic control panel will be positioned next to the gates. The control panel is the central core of the system and will be housed in a weatherproof enclosure. It will be necessary to access the control panel during service visits.
3 x radio remote key fobs will be provided allowing remote activation of the system when approaching the gates.

Underground.
The drive units for the gates will be located below ground at the hinge position. These are located in order to achieve a pleasing finish and to hide as much of the equipment as possible. It will be necessary to access the drive units during service visits. It will be possible to disengage the gate from the drive motor using a secure key operated mechanism should this be required.

£5399.00 plus VAT

An annual service every year of the automation can be quoted for if required

A quotation for connection of the automation can be quoted for next week when Neil looks at the garden lighting connections

· All PAC installations are covered by a comprehensive 12 months parts and labour warranty followed by any additional manufacturer parts warranty on all gate automation equipment, subject to terms and conditions.

You get what you pay for with gate closers. Cheap ones will be worn out in no time if it's heavily trafficked and you need a good response if faulty. Somet8mes there is a facility to uncouple the mechanism in an emergency from inside the property. I can ask next week if you like what our contractors fit/ recommend but do your research, depending on size / quality that quote may not be too bad. Always get 3 tho.
If you could ask that would be great. Thank you.

Sounds reasonable, but not cheap. Can you give me a better location as I have a chap currently doing fencing for me. He has done electric gates for a famous celeb (I'd call her A list) but it's not my remit to give his clients details away. He has just fitted an electric (deer) fence for me including a deer grid. He priced up electric gates but it was no cheaper than the deer grid, all things considered - price similar to your quote for the grid, side fence and pedestrian gate.

He's back here tomorrow to finish off so I can give him your location and see if he is interested in quoting.
Thank you, yes. We’re near Chipping Norton.
