Old summerhouse - tear it down?

Hi

Looking for opinions on this old summerhouse. What would you do with this?

It is a large foot print for relatively small internal space, probably around 1.5x2.5m internally. It leaks and is mouldy. Currently just used for storing old junk that is no longer needed.

It also cuts off a good couple of metres of garden behind it, which also happens to be the sunniest part of the garden because my garden is north facing.

I'm thinking of pulling it down, get rid of the hedge behind it and fence all along. Perhaps some decking and a covered area for our table and chairs.

Interested in what others think.

Suggested that to err indoors as there is nothing nearby which would be affected by the flames/carnage but was denied. Still could have fun chopping it down and letting it collapse.

It's just taking up space. Has to go right? I can't see the point in a summerhouse but wanted to check in case I'm missing something... guess not. Would gain a lot of garden back.

It's not that bad on the surface but had been leaking for years as the roof has the wrong tiles for the pitch.

Good point about the privacy angle and view of the houses. I was thinking of having the hedge replaced with a featheredge fence but it probably won't give the same coverage as it'll be lower.

I've just cut the hedge back too, so it's looking a bit bare at the moment. It'll grow back in no time.

I had a rotten shed and a similar summerhouse left by the previous owners of my house. The shed was on the patio so I cut it up with a reciprocating saw and took it to the dump. The summerhouse is covering a bad bit of fencing so I stained it and while it looks better it has to go soon.

Thanks. Funny enough we had a rotting shed too, complete with up and over style garage door.. that went last year.

The privacy point is a good one. The garden is already overlooked a bit. Not sure about a tree, I have a large magnolia just off frame on the left and it causes a bit of friction with the neighbours.

Brilliant. Sadly I don't think I'd have the bottle for that. I'd be worried that the smoke would have the environment police out or something. I'm too sensible
