Had enough with London ! Silly house prices, the crime and the dirt etc . Wife is a Nurse .I will be consulting and can work from home. 8 year old son requires a good school. But not a great Budget . :£185k max . Using £40ks worth of deposit. . Areas that I have heard are ok are. Cherry orchid and Bowbrook. But what do I really know ? ! .Ludlow was on the cards , but its too limiting for my wife to work and shop etc . . No New build type houses etc. very happy to update house over a few years etc . Crime areas and what to avoid etc I really want to know about . I await any advice .Thanks

Good Luck, after reading the latest ECP threads on this forum ! According to Rightmove etc . we can find a suitable house etc for the budget. We will be first time so no chain. And 2019 might be a buyers dream come true ! I plan to visit in a couple of weeks with the family and look around. But the general look of the place is very positive .Cheers

Found some good "flood area area" web sites that I am going to study hard ! . Also I would expect mortgage and insurance companies to be doing the same ? !

Thanks for replies. I wanted to post last night but was blocked due to "new member abuse" or something going on . One thing is for sure. The area seems to be loved by everyone . I am hearing so much "good" rather than "bad" .North Wales (Porthmadog) was a option .But we wondered about Shrewsbury due to its location. As for Budget ! Well I cannot afford much . I tend to live with what i can afford. I dont owe money and try not to. A mortgage will be the first time in 30 years ! .But its the security of should something happen .My wife should as a nurse be able to service the payments. We are not rich by any means and dont suffer from any illusions of wanting to have what we cannot afford . Wife will need to learn to drive .As it it obvious we wont have a underground system to rely on etc. Telford is a NONO from day one. But within Shrewsbury are there areas to be "avoided" at all costs ? !

Thanks for the posts . The advice is been well noted

Thanks Again. I tried to reply last night .But it looks like the forum has issues with new members spamming ! For the first 2 years >i will imagine my wife will need Public transport to get to a hospital etc. Learning to drive for her could be a great thread on its own !! .I have printed off a big map and starting to put post its etc marking out the nice places and the not so recommended etc. Also the flood areas. No way do i want to be part of those News videos with me up to my waist in dirty water been interviewed by the BBC !

London is ok if you are super poor or super rich. But after a bit the whole crime and rather nasty "elements" of big cities just get tiring .Also I am a bit of a "mountain /outdoor type ". London is Ok, But its not the place for me to want to bring up a 9 year old

Why not go further north, with that budget you could get a good house in newcastle?
Dont think I could deal with that ! Went there many years ago and after 2 nights out .I am still mentally scared. Just hearing the female accent makes me panic ( !!)

You lot live for Pubs ! . What would be handy is to know a nice place for a good breakfast and real coffee and somewhere for a reasonable Evening meal .

we are not really "pub" people .But thats not to say we would miss out on a great pub ! . Staying outside of town due to Hotel costs and availability
.managed to get a travel lodge for the 3 of us, 2 night : £58 all in !!

Same for us. Once we are settled .We will get a dog! It will help us spend as much time as possible outside. I dont agree with pets in big cities and worst still apartments etc

Currently eating Breakfast in “Peaberry “ . Rather good value for money and it deserves its “ tripadvisor l” reviews .

Last night we took a chance and ate “turkish “ . Big mistake. We eat so much along Green lanes in london and the quality is so superior and also a lot cheaper .

Firstly , Jesus it’s quiet here !!!!! Last night all around the centre was so quiet and peaceful . No pissheads Etc . Even today it’s super quiet . Some very eclectic shops . One super ting artisan bakers last night baking bread . This business would make a killing in London .

I am married .... but most certainly single guys would like Shrewsbury. Very attractive ladies . London, they all look like hookers with made in China lips .

Now off around and to chat with Estate agents .

But a very good start . Thanks for all the help so far

It’s hard to reply due to this “””new member “ issue where the forums seem to be locked most evenings !!

Currently in Owestry

Very different ......🙄

Wife has made her opinion of it known . It really is cheaper . But we might end up regretting it .

Back to Shrewsbury

After the buying this amazing bread and cakes . We got directed over to the indoor Market

Now this really did make us smile . What a “vibe” in the place . Firstly the stall holders we spoke to mentioned the rents . About what some markets in hipster parts of london want for a day . This place charges a month !
Every single stall selling some really good stuff. From hand made children’s clothes ( And a great spokeswoman for the area !) to a full frame / medium format camera dealer . A well hip barbers doing a roaring trade in a corner with a AMAZING cafe called “ Birds nest “ . No wonder it get rave reviews on Trip advisor .

My wife “Gets “ Shrewsbury . It’s a place that really sells itself .

Back to Shrewsbury and hopefully a better meal than last night . What was funny last night was seeing “Nick Harper” was playing in a pub . Use to know him a bit years ago in Marlborough

Now stuffing our faces in “ Umai” . Great Japanese food .

We are coming back in a few weeks . There is so much to see here . And what a place !

Stopped off at Ludlow on way back to London. Great place possibly if you count on it as a second home !! Thundered back, and the Old E39 did the 440 miles on exactly 1/2 a tank of diesel. .Bloody amazing car . We will head back up 1/2 term . Wife is currently looking into vacancies at the Hospitals etc . No doubt in our mind about Living there .It sells itself well.

And did I mention the women...!
