I thought I would get in early (again) with a 2020 lawn thread to follow on from 2019....

Last year (2019) I scarified nice and early in the season and it came back really well so might skip scarifying this year. I recently got a Vizsla puppy who has successfully been housetrained, but if he is anything like my friend’s dog whom we look after, he will destroy the grass! I take it he is okay at the moment as the grass isn’t growing, or will I be left with a series of dead patches come spring?

All the best for 2020!

Your dog will ruin it.

Embrace the crap lawn, like a badge of honour.

P. S. I like moss.
Whilst we love our dog, we have decided to put our house on the market and I really want to improve the lawn if possible! He is now 4.5 months and very trainable so I'm going to attempt to make him wee in one area to contain the damage. It's still cold here in East Lothian so my plan is to scarify as soon as the lawn starts growing, over-seed (especially the yellow patches) and see what happens. For some reason we have always needed to scarify every year as the grass gets really yellow/thatched in the winter and doesn't really come back that well in the Spring. I take it there is no point Scarifying/seeding until the weather warms up?

Here is what it should look like....

The temperatures look quite promising for the next week so we decided to scarify; our lawn normally looks good in the summer but needs scarifying every year - the added problem this year has been our new Vizsla puppy...I've created an area in the border with woodchip and he is going to undergo some pretty intensive toilet training over the coming days....

Three bulk bags of thatch later....

We have a Vizsla too, and we managed to train him to go at the end of the garden. Quite funny when you are playing with him outside and he suddenly belts off for a pee! Saves the lawn too, as your pictures show
Any training tips would be gratefully received...! smile
