With Oil prices dropping steadily I've been waiting to get a delivery (can easily wait 6 months)

I checked today and the price has rocketed despite the oil price still dropping

Are there really supply problems at this stage or just more panic buying ?

If anything, I've experienced the opposite:
Where's that ^^ from ?

Prices are still all over the place in Warwickshire, I'm being quoted 43 - 32.95 cheapest on Boiler Juice which is a first !

I'm 90% sure it will get cheaper but I doubt by much

Ordered 1500 L via boiler juice on Sun evening, 38 ppl (£681), But up to 3.5 wks for delivery
Yes I noticed the delivery dates have extended somewhat

Makes me want to order elsewhere, currently a lot could change in 3.5 weeks

Just ordered 1000lites at 23p/l ex. VAT.
That's ridiculously cheap

I hedged my bets and ordered 1000 as I'm sure it will drop further (than my price) at 23p I'd have ordered 4,000 !

Oil Club offered 32.5 plus VT on Friday (west Wales). BUT....they are quoting anything up to 6 weeks delivery.

All in all I'm glad I paid 42p incl VAT a couple of weeks ago and had it delivered before the crisis hit big time. Should last until winter now that we are coming into milder weather.

smile
Yes I was watching and waiting when I started this thread and was concerned when the price jumped - presumably panic buying.

I was intending to wait longer but when the price was low and delivery dates started extending I bought some to be safe - I was quoted 3 weeks - it came the next day !

I’ve never got that close to running out

I’m happy spending another 7p knowing I’ll get oil when I want it.
Me neither hence I'm happy shopping around as I don't need preferential customer status.

If it was 7p I'd agree with you but in your case it's around £70, in mine it's around £140, I have better things to do with the money.

Need another tank full - 22p a litre.
Winning !
Yes IIRC I bought 2000L at 17p which is a record low around here at least, ordered a top up last week at 23p but with the new Gov't guidance I'd now expect it to drop further.

I'm not so sure about that, although I hope I'm wrong. With more people staying at home during the colder months the more the heating will be on so demand for heating oil is likely to be higher.
Ah but with more now working from home or not working at all means less general oil demand and the farmers won't be needing any for crop drying

I find the oil club are always cheaper than BJ.
I depends on area, BJ used not to be competitive but has been the best price for me, for the last 3 yrs.

I have an independent supplier within a mile but they won't price match.

Take it most people are signed up to a company oil club ?
No I've always got better price from Fuel Tool or Boiler Juice

Local supplier won't price match and is very near me but I can hold 2yrs supply so I wait until the price looks good before I buy

Just ordered 1000l @ 60.75 through our local oil group in North Devon.

Better than the 67.9 I was quoted independently.
I can't think there's a worse time to buy, I presume the price rise is to do with the "fuel shortage"

Although if it's to do with the gas shortage then it will carry on rising

does burning vegetable oil produce less co2?
I suspect it's greener as it absorbs CO2 when it's growing - same argument for adding ethanol to petrol

I've run vans on waste bio without issue and they are far higher tech than boilers

It made sense with vans as it was circa 60p /L when diesel was £1/L but until recently kerosene has always been cheaper and easier to get hold of, plus bio can vary in quality but if large companies got involved I'd happily swap over

Too lazy to read the link right now but I assume it's something derived from veg oil rather than just veg oil? Good luck getting veg oil out of an outdoor tank when the temperature has been single digits for a few weeks..!
Wiki - "Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) is a biofuel made by the hydrocracking or hydrogenation of vegetable oil. Hydrocracking breaks big molecules into smaller ones using hydrogen while hydrogenation adds hydrogen to molecules. These methods can be used to create substitutes for gasoline, diesel, propane, kerosene and other chemical feedstock. Diesel fuel produced from these sources is known as green diesel or renewable diesel.

Diesel fuel created by Hydrotreating is called green diesel and is distinct from the biodiesel made through esterification."

Standard BBC style story about heating oil

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-60054463

What they don’t say is that the ‘50% rise’ is from the pandemic induced levels and that the current price of c.55p is, in my opinion, fairly normal. That’s not to say that I don’t have any sympathy for those struggling due to this and other rises.
I've been on oil for nearly 10 years now, I wait for better prices but I tend to pay 34-44p

In the pandemic I managed 17p

I recently had to pay 55p but just had 1000L as I was hoping it would go down further

So IME it's a 25% ish rise bearing in mind most other things tend to go up every year and oil went down for a while

According to the Boilerjuice chart prices are pretty much where they were 4 years ago.
I'm on my phone so it's a little hard to get the exact numbers but it appears to be 49p to 61p

I hope your job isn't in financial analysis biggrin

Your post prompted me to think - hang on, don't the suppliers have any stock at the old price? Why do they whack up the prices the moment wholesale prices go up - they must be sitting on a lake of it at the old price.
Really ?

It's like the "new customers only" BS that I think has recently been stopped

Most companies are run purely for maximum profit and screw the customer

I find it funny that car / bike dealers get such a hard time, I recently bought a BMW - the PO had hidden various faults, I fixed them and noticed the rad was bowing so did that too because it cost me £50 and it would cost someone down the line a lot more - yet we're all tts and big companies somehow - aren't

I bought 1000l at 55p in Jan, hoping it to get cheaper, looks like I guessed wrong

It doesn't really matter in the scheme of things - just had to pay £70 for a doctor to sign a letter which seems a much bigger rip off to me
