Ahead of purchasing my first Aston, I thought I should prep the garage appropriately. I have a fairly decent double with internal floor area circa 6.1m by 5.3m. The slab was laid 4 years ago and until now I've not sealed or painted it. With the existing tamped finish I'm thinking of having a resin floor as it's quite rough/rippled at present. If anyone who's done similar could share an idea of cost and any advise as to what to look for I'd be grateful. Cheers.

Thanks both, but I was meaning more the screeded resin coatings rather than epoxy resin paint. I've had a price from a local contractor that works out at around £70/m2 and wondered how that compares with anyone else's experience.

The alternative would be interlocking PVC tiles but the rough/tamped finish of the existing floor means I'd probably need to have that levelled with some sort of screed before the tiles were laid anyway.

Can a tamped concrete surface be made smooth, using a wheeled floor grinder machine?
Yes, that is apparently another option, but a I assume a very dusty one.

Thought of ceramic tiles as an option ?

A damn sight cheaper than Resin flooring.

Had mine done last year with tiles like these ...

I hadn't, but have just ordered a sample. How easily do they chip? Also, how have you ramped the leading edge at the door?

I’ve had mine down about a year , only one chip from an axle stand , I’ve learned my lesson I’d put a square of plywood down underneath the stand in future .

As an aside, we used quite a bit more adhesive than we expected due to the floor being uneven.

I’ve got a similar sized garage , I think it cost me about £1200 all done.

Look far better and cheaper than the plastic / rubber interlocking tiles.
Thanks for that Buster. Any chance of a pic of how you dealt with the leading (ramped) edge at the door, please?

No chips or cracks in mine after 18 months. Two cars and two motorbikes on side stands.
Thanks Phil, and as per my question to Buster, how did you treat the door edge, please?

Thanks all. Am liking the ceramic tile idea - not least as it sounds as though it can be done at a rather more attractive cost. The less I spend on the floor, the more is left for the Vantage smile

Just had a quote for laying the ceramic tiles - almost £1700 excluding the tile cost! At that rate the resin is less expensive confused

Not sure what part of the country you're in but how many days labour is that quote for? Do the maths then look for a better quote is my advice.
South Coast. Quote included £400 for adhesive and another £50 for sealer. I get the distinct impression it was a "I don't really want the job but if you're dumb enough to pay this much I'll do it" price.

Ordered mine from them - checked around for prices and couldn’t beat it. Very helpful chap called Steve sorted me out.

It’ll be around £1k all in including adhesive, grout and 46m2 of light grey Dotti R9 tiles. That’s including fitting as well.

Much more hard wearing than interlocking and a better looking finish.
Does your fitter cover Hampshire by any chance?

He’s just our handyman, but can do anything. Unfortunately he’s 280 miles from Hampshire.

It’s not rocket science - you can do it yourself if you have the time. Watch a few YouTube vids.

I would do ours but am being banned from big jobs by SWMBO
Yep, 280 miles would be a bit of a stretch. You're right, I could do it - I've done enough DIY tiling of kitchens and bathrooms over the years - but knackered knees (and elbows) mean it would take me weeks.

I got a tiler I’ve used a few times before to do mine.

He got a minor fracture in his leg a couple of weeks beforehand and turned up with one of those protective boot efforts on and still did the job .

I think he charged £400 iirc , worth every penny , my arthritic knees wouldn’t have lasted an hour doing what he did.
I'm guessing he's nowhere near Hampshire either, but if he is then please PM me his details.

Not so much arthritic in my case, but a succession of ACL, MCL, Medial Meniscus and dislocation injuries have taken their toll. Twenty years ago I wouldn't have dreamed of paying someone else to do such a job. I hate getting old!

How’s Mrs OC’s health ? You could sit back and drink tea and supervise.

LOL, now that really would be something to behold. Sadly her DIY skills are about as well-developed as my knowledge of quantum physics, about which I know absolutely nothing.

I'd really recommend the investment in tiles over anything else. These are porcelain and have been down for 6 years, endured many a dropped tool, jacking of vehicles and general duties with no impact to the finish whatsoever and it just makes it a nice place to be.
Certainly looks good. I have couple more tilers coming to give quotes so fingers crossed for a more realistic price.
