Thanks in advance for any ideas you might have
4 am- daybreak every morning for the last week, hoards of crows attacking the windows!

These suckers are giving it hell, waking up the whole household and making quite a mess of the window sills as well as smearing the glass itself.

Google tells me, they see themselves in the reflection and try to fight the 'other' bird. Closing curtains does not help

What can I do?!
Poison? tried some rat poison mixed with bird seed on a couple of window ledges but to no avail.

Any help gratefully appreciated

if a rat was causing similar damage and lack of sleep would we question poison?

I'm all ears tho, all I want is the damage to stop and for my wife and kids not to be woken up at 4am, all suggestions welcome!

What colour are your curtains? A paler colour would make reflections harder to see. You could try hanging white paper behind the glass.

Poison seems a bit extreme.
Mainy white on the outside facing side

Solution's a bit obvious, isn't it? Fit wooden exterior shutters, like they have on most houses on the continent.
thanks for that

Hang an old sheet etc over the outside of the window.
Did you really need to be told that?
house has 25 windows, this is not really a workable solution

So I'm a snowflake for not wanting wildlife illegally poisoned?

Go ahead and do it. You've seen the possible punishments.
no the snowflake was in reference to reacting someone's tongue in cheek shotgun suggestion, please relax, there is no offence to be taken here.

I appreciate that poison is technically illegal. But no other birds have been seen on our window ledges and something clearly has to be done because whilst occasionally amusing, my wife 2 young sons and I are been woken at 4 am every morning and damage is being done to our home.

The non lethal suggestions so far have been fit all 25 windows with shutters, or drape towels out of all our windows, neither of which, sadly, are workable.

If I employed a professional to do the job, theyd probably kill the feckers, rather than sweet talk the crows!

Amusingly he is calling others snowflakes, yet he is the one crying because he is woken at 4 am, about 2 weeks ago I was hearing the dawn chorus at 3.30 am, it is around 4 am now, but I don't mind it one bit, even pigeons flapping about at that time, windows are fully open and woodland is about 25 metres from my window, but I don't have to put poison and bird seed out to see them off, it is part of nature.
good one!

this is not my video but the crows are basically like this
just more of them

im sure you wouldnt mind one bit!
I'm sure you think this is harmonious nature at its best and the reason why you moved to the country side! good one

Best bet is to shoot one and leave the body in situ, this will dissuade them from returning. The crows round my area have started to attack the rubbers surrounding car windows as well as killing smaller birds. I shot one and left the body for a couple of days, haven’t seen them since.
i'm not a gun owner but thankyou for the suggestion

yes they do attack cars too, again I'm sure all part of nature's charm for the many on this thread

guys please calm down and can we stick to the facts?

I haven't killed the crows, I've merely tried to kill them

If Speckled Jim hadn't been so wily, he'd be pushing up the daisies by now but don't woirry, he'll be back tomorrow at 4am sharp!

Funny how anything to do with animal control or culling flushes out the nutters.
Doesn't it just
they walk amongst us, unseen for weeks and then
Speckled Jim feeds them at night and they're everywhere

OP - why don't you just put bird spikes on the window cills to stop them from alighting there?
that's probably the next move

I was just hoping for an more expeditious solution. lots of windows and it'll look horrible

basically i want the crows to move out. we were so lucky in that we used to have loads of birds of every different type around, encouraged and fed by my wife and kids. But they have all been scared away and all we have left are these bruisers that are pissing everyone off
