Calor Gas cylinders
Discussion
Whilst clearing out a deceased friend's shed I came across two medium sized empty Calor Gas cylinders.
I know that if there's original paperwork there's a deposit refund on a sliding scale, but there isn't any paperwork. Scrap metal dealers won't take them but my local hardware shop has offered £3 each.
Is there anything better to do with them or is £3 a good offer?

How much does a refill cost?

As for your 15kg calor bottles, possibly best time to look for a buyer is at the start of the winter, and the last price I paid for a refill was £25.13 plus 5% VAT, and that was after receiving a 20% discount. So on that basis I would think retail would be about £31 ish.
That's only £5.87 for the cylinder...Anyway, there are a few on for £12.50 so in the interests of a quick sale I'll go lower. If they're unsold after a week I'll go for the £3 option!
Hmm, it won't let me change the quantity from 1 to 2...

My company is a Calor Gas dealer and there isn't a refund on Calor Gas cylinders. If you do not have a cylinder the Cylinder Agreement Charge is £29.99 + the cost of the gas which currently for 15kg butane is £33.00.
There is a partial refund if you have the paperwork and it's less than 6 years old (sliding scale). I know this because Calor Gas told me yesterday and I got £18 back on a third cylinder I'm surprised they don't offer a fixed deposit, regardless of paperwork, to encourage recyling. Don't they want them back?

Think about it,lots of gas cylinders in peoples back gardens sheds etc,no questions refund of deposit=lots of do as you likies driving even more new cars!and countless people being burgled.
Well I agree that a £100 deposit would encourage opportunistic burglaries, but £3 might encourage people to take them back. But then I'm thinking of Corona bottles and the 1970s when opportunistic scrotes didn't go round breaking into sheds for a few quid to buy drugs. Viva the 21st century.
