Don’t think I have ever seen an aviary thread, cage birds yes, but not Aviary, so may be on my own but surely not? Mine was built just over a year ago by a guy who runs his own business down on the south coast. Highly recommended. At the moment keeping Budgies, Cockatiels, Japanese Quail, Chinese Quail, Zebra Finches, Java Sparrows, Canaries and Bengalese finches. Hook bills and finches in separate flights, internal and external, budgies using breeding cages, finches colony breeding.

Long term ambition is large parrots, but worried about the noise and neighbours! Does anyone have experience of keeping larger parrots (probably Macaws or African Greys) in gardens and the level and type of noise they generate? In other words if my neighbours have no issue with the current noise how far am I pushing things with parrots? I think I have understood Greys are about the same noise volume as cockatiels? I'm guessing a lot depends on the particular bird?

Thank you for the responses.

Yes screeching is definitely the problem, probably my most consistently noisy bird is a grey male canary, but I can’t see anyone complaining at his song. I got him few months ago, I understand that canaries are meant to be quieter in the winter but he is fairly continuous in his singing.

Did some showing of budgies the first time I had birds, but its not really my thing and I don’t agree with what they have done with show birds (eg getting to a size and shape where they are not able to fly properly). Keeping and breeding a variety of birds is what interests me. Over the weekend realised I had my first cockatiel eggs which is very exciting!

There must be more aviaries out there in PH land?!
