We very sadly had to have our 13.5yr old working cocker put to sleep on the 17th, it was unexpected though he had been unwell for some months.

I have idly been browsing the rescue shelter websites but nothing has sprung out and we aren't convinced what we want to do (we have a 9yr old Westie).

Today though, an 11mth old WCS appears on a rescue page & both myself & my OH (who said never again after the pain of losing Scooby) are both head over heels!

My head keeps telling me all the reasons why not, my heart is bursting & I'm now worrying we won't get him despite having submitted an application!

Quick update.

We have a home check booked for tomorrow for one of the spaniel rescue people, no specific dog available but we'll be ready if/when one arrives.

Keeping an eye on all the local recue shelters, there are several dogs in assessment that may or may not become available.

I've had several spaniels over the years, I said if we got another dog we'd try something different so why am I drawn back to spaniels again?!

Open minded, that's the great thing about rescue, the dog chooses you doesn't it so we could end up with anything?!

We have a 3hr round trip tomorrow to see an 11mth old rescue sprocker - he's the one that convinced us we wanted another as soon as we saw his photo & we've had to wait weeks for him to finish assessment & become available to adopt.

Wish us luck!

He is the spit of my cocker.

His Dad was Larford Evan.

Do you know the history of your new lad?

What's his name?
He's a sprocker, albeit a rather large one!

No history as he's a rescue, he's 11mths old & started life in Wilts area.

He's Arlo & he's a rescue 11mth old Sprocker.

Pulls on the lead & jumps up but both easily trained out, other than that he's a real gem & such a heartbreaker!

Will work on the above & his recall then he can be off the lead & the real fun will start smile

Op. Arlo looks a fabulous boy. Amazing how many posts say he looks like theirs.

You originally asked How soon is too soon.

Do you feel you made the right decision timewise?

We acquired a new cat last year. Our previous cat had lived to almost 20, but the gap between the old one passing and getting the new one was about a month. I love our new one but still miss the old one. This is probably natural but would be interested in others thoughts
Absolutely the right thing, Arlo has filled that huge void.

Strangely I never walked in & expected to see Scooby or missed his presence but since Arlo has been here I have 'seen' Scooby 2 or 3 times rather than Arlo. Narural enough I suppose?

Steve, you have a gorgeous dog there smile
