Thinking of getting a second dog

After people's thoughts, we have a 15 month old golden retriever who has been rather ill over the last few months with meningitis, he's now on the mend. Anyway our breeder who we got him from has just had another litter of retrievers and two dogs are available.

We are interested in getting another one as company for the first one just wondering What are people's experiences of owning two dogs did you find it "double the trouble" or was it all okay.
