Hi all

Looking for validation more than anything, so thought best to ask in here. Am planning on a one night stay in the Brecon Beacons in Spetember. Plan is to drive up with the dog from Southampton, arrive midday, quick walk, kip in YHA, big walk the next day then head home.

I have 3 things I need help with if anyone can assist:

1. Any good stops en-route from Southampton to Breacon Beacons where I can stop and let the dog run off some energy? Ideally around the 1.5hr mark.
2. Suggestions for a quick walk in the afternoon when there?
3. Is the horseshoe walk dog friendly? I assume there are loads of streams etc for dog water.

Many thanks.

Just to update the thread, we ended up walking up from the Storey Arms, and took in Corn Du, Pen Y Fan, Cribyn and Fan Y Big before heading down the the reservoir (via a detour..) up the other side and back down to the Storey Arms. 12 miles in total. Amazing route and an amazing location. The dog loved it too. Weather wasn't brilliant so he ended up wearing his coat most of the day. It was the morning after the storm last week.

Few pictures here if you scroll down a little

and the route here

On the way there we stopped at the Westbury White Horse, which is also a lovely walk. There are also pictures on the page.

Fantastic photos and looks like you did a very similar route to what we did! How shattered was Chewie after?

Me and a mate are doing Cadair Idris (mid wales mountain) on Tuesday with Doodles and his Springer mate Mack so will hopefully have some photos of that too.
He wasn't too bad to be honest. When we got back to the car he jumped in pretty sharpish and lay down. He was snoozing all the way home (3hrs) but once home he ran around with the others for a bit. By the next morning he was raring to go on our normal hour long forest walk. It barely seemed to register, but he is a 15 month old whippet. I think he was more tired the day before as he'd not slept at all in the car after running around the Westbury White Horse.

Have fun doing Cadair Idris, please share photos.

3rd of the welsh 3 peaks accomplished by Doodles and his buddy Mack today! Much tougher than Pen Y Fan!
Good work Doodles
