We are without a dog at the moment, but the family wants a dachshund. I must confess that, having read up on them, I can see the appeal. However I have started seeing them everywhere. Are they "on trend" at the moment, or am I experiencing some sort of confirmation bias?

I’m without a dog at the moment too and will be getting two in the new year if things go according to plan.

I’m going to get mine from a rescue place and a Dachshund is high on the want list for one of the two. Little dogs with bags of personality, what’s not to like? smile
They can't get on the sofa, go upstairs or do big poos. So not much. That's not to say I will cave in and get one, but they have a lot going for them.

Not much, when they look like this working "teckel"

but (IMO, of course) quite a lot when they have the show dogs' exaggerated long back and short leg proportions

Poor breeding appears to be a risk with these.

My son also has one who is possibly a little bit different to mine.

That is despair in those eyes.
