Just back from a walk in the park and mildly irritated again by a series of dog owners.
Bit of a back story, I do a lot of running and walking, often in/thru parks and pedestrian areas.
I have had my fill of dogs and their owners. Not least from their reluctance to clean up after their prize pooches.

Anyway, today I took the baby out to the park for some fresh air before he goes to bed.
Sitting on a park bench with him on my knee, minding our own business as a series of dogs and their owners pass.
Most of the dogs are off lead and come over sniffing around us. I position my leg each time to provide some distance from dog and baby. This does not go down well with the owners. Then I notice a fight between 4 dogs about 60 yards away. When they are all separated one set of owners come up towards us, two dogs off lead, as they near it is clear the dogs are coming in close and so i lift my foot to stop them. The owner says 'no need to lift your foot, mate' in an offended/pissed off manner. So I said, 'i don't know your dog and after that performance down there you should have them on a lead, besides i'm not taking any risks with a baby'. Anyway both ladies waddled on, no response.

Have had various episode like this over the past few months and its becoming an annoyance. Also out running owners often make no attempt to control their dog and they often cause a trip hazard.

What is it with dog owners thinking that it is ok for their pets to get in close to slabber and sniff others and to pose a danger to babies?

Im increasingly finding the majority have no consideration for others and their attitude stinks.

While sitting on a bench after a run the other day I observed a pooch stting. The owner looked like the type that would never pick it up so I observed him pull out the phone and distract himself for a while then walk on. I called him out and he says 'you know what, mate, I'll get it on the way back, and sure there are no bins along this tow path and I cant let it stink out my car on the way home'. And on they went.

A dog old fashioned dog warden would be wonderful around our local park/area.

I have to agree with the OP. Dog owners seem to think everyone else likes dogs.
Especially the bit where us non-dog-lovers start to push the nasty creatures away from us (or our children). It's usually a "He won't hurt you". What's that got to do with it? I simply don't want it sniffing round me when it's just been sniffing another dog's backside.

So I have purchased an ultrasonic device (I'm sure you know what I mean) and I have great fun with it. It annoys the owners as much as the dogs, and that's just great.
An angry old lady once asked me "is that a stun gun?" and I just refused to answer her. She told me I needed a licence, and I said no I didn't. I said I'd use it as much as I liked if she didn't keep her dog away from me.
Seemed to work though, she went off in a huff.
Sounds like one approach to take smile

Pet owners are all fking mental.

Criticise their pet which in some part of the world is dinner and you get looked at like Gary Glitter outside a primary school.

Weird people.
That's it. They cannot comprehend that many people cannot stand dogs and cats.
Show the slightest sign of annoyance at some stinking dog and the owner is hopping mad.

What I find intriguing is that every single one of my 5 ex girlfriends has gone and bought a Cockapoo type thingy doggy pooch when our relationship finished.

Dodged a bullitt or 5 there I reckon.
A clear sign they have all given up on men. You must be some piece of work ;-)

They sit on my beautifully polished bonnet scratching the lacquer in the process. .
Don't talk piffle, cat's claws can't scratch car paint, they are made of keratin, same as your own nails.
Non-sense.

Must admit, around our way, it's the entitled wkers who go out jogging and expect people to move out of their way.
Depends. I run a tow path quite a bit. The guidance is simple, stay on the left hand side.
This is beyond the capabilities of many, often dog owners.
When they are on the wrong side I generally hold my line and depending on my mood decide how far to take making a point,

Not the point whether you like dogs or babies or children

Neither should be let loose in public space. I do like dogs and have as Great Dane. Properly trained, always on leash when off the property. My responsibility. I do not think my dog should approach strangers and do think that she should be very safe if a stranger approaches her to pet her. No excuse for dogfighting and of course all dog poop should be picked up . This is nothing more than basic civic responsibility.

Equally I do not want to have bratty children running around restaurants and the maddening excuse that they are "just kids". Same thing on public transport or in shops. The parent is 100% responsible to ensure that they do not bother others. I would never have allowed my son to get away with some of the behaviour tolerated by doting slack jawed parents who think it is good for the little monster's development.

Shared space is to be respected.
Excellent.

What guidance? Keep left signs on a tow path?
Yes, tow path / cycle route. Keep left signage.
Quite simple and works like a dream when followed.

I read the OP as being a Snowflake. Quick to blame everyone else but taking no responsibility at all for their own actions.

It is true there are irresponsible dog owners, there always has been. There are far more irresponsible parents though. In this instance, why was the child in reach of a dog? Animals that you cannot communicate with are unpredictable. Nobody speaks fluent dog. No dog is 100% trustworthy, even the best well trained dog can have the potential to do something out of character.

Don't take you precious offspring for a walk round a park where the dogs off the lead vastly out number you. That is the simple answer, but everyone has a sense of entitlement that seems to trump common sense in their own heads these days.
Possibly the most idiotic comment to date.
