Yes, Rosie our cocker spaniel is an ex-puppy farm breeding bh. Is there anything in particular you wanted to know?
Is it a big job taking one on? No problem spending time getting the dog to trust us & understand she's now safe & loved but just wondering how reactive she's likely to be to, well everything potentially?moorx said:
This is the rescue we got Rosie from, and their advice - the vast majority of their dogs are ex-breeding dogs, so they are very experienced:

Thanks, this little girl is from Many Tears. https://www.manytearsrescue.org/adoption_advice.ph...

Oh, good for you - we have two dogs from them (Rosie and Max, a saluki/springer x) and my mum and dad had one too. We are not too far from MT, is she still there or in a foster home? Good luck with everything
She went to a foster home yesterday lunchtime, about 1.5hrs from us so not too bad. Llanelli is over 3hrs each way for us. Thank you, will update once we have progressed

Having read a lot of your posts she will be coming to the right place.
Our first was a rescue. Time and love is a great healer.
Don’t forget the photos
Thanks Gary. We weren't looking for an ex breeding dog, just another rescue but she came up & looks so sweet. Our first was a rescue. Time and love is a great healer.

I'm not going to lie, it is a daunting thought taking her on but knowing weeks/months down the line she'll be happy & settled is worth it.

I'd never heard of that charity so I'm glad I popped into this thread as we're planning on adopting a rescue dog in the next 6 months once all our renovation work is done.
Good luck with your search! We have been scanning rescues within 100mls or so for weeks now & not had any luck, MTAR seem to get a lot of dogs, many ex breeding but mostly in Llanelli which is quite far from us.

I was going to ask whether there was any update
I understand your concern, but I think it's a good sign that she's starting to trust humans - that's half the battle. In our experience, once they realise you're not going to rush them or hurt them (and that you are a source of food and fuss!) they will come around, given time. It's good that she's been in a foster home as that will have started the process.
She will have had nearly 2wks in foster, 5 days longer than planned but that should be a blessing hopefully. How are things going?
Not sure to be honest! She only ate half her breakfast but it's the 1st day she's been given free run of the house & she came out to explore when left on her own.
Let her out with our other dog for the 1st time & she followed him into the garden before turning tail & running back to bed! Picked her up & carried her out & again, once I left she had a good nose around.
Still very scared obviously but hopefully some ground made today.

It's still very early days. I shouldn't worry too much, just give her time and space. Like I said earlier, Rosie was very scared of open spaces to start with. She'd skirt around the fence in our garden looking for escape routes, before disappearing into the border and trying to dig her way out! She was also very nervous when she was eating and didn't like taking treats from us. How are she and Arlo getting on?
Pretty much ignoring each other, we moved her into the living room tonight as the sun room was just too cold & it felt wrong having her isolated. She's in her crate (door open) while he's fast asleep on a sofa! She did growl lowly at him earlier when he got too close to her in her bed!She ate tonight & came back in from the garden on her own. Thankfully she's been clean, foster mum said she'd only had 1 accident in 13 days - amazing considering.

How is Missy doing now?
She has a mountain to climb bless her but she is starting to show her character & slowly coming out of herself. Starting to love the garden & all the smells & sensations it has to offer, probably never been used to exercise. Sadly it seems she's got an allergy to something & has had to visit the vets due to nibbling, Westies are notorious for allergies but hopefully we can get on top of it as she's having to wear the cone of shame a lot.
Still scared of most things & won't let anybody approach her, she will come to us sometimes, especially if Arlo is there, she is learning to rely on him. She has a natural curiosity which is helping to overcome her fear, loves treats too which helps & is now eating well.
She is a little thief, especially fabrics & paper!
She is such a lovely dog, 3wks with us & I couldn't imagine being without her, currently fast asleep in her new, warm & very comfy bed!
We also applied to Cairn rescue but no dog became available.
She's obviously starting to feel more confident, she was an absolute nightmare yesterday, stealing & chewing anything she could (chewed the labels off 2 electrical cables without chewing the cables), been a little bit better today!
At the moment she's on the floor next to me chewing a bone, 1st time she's chewed something she's allowed scrub that, she's up to mischief again...
Must try her harness on & then see how she copes with going out to explore the big, wide world...
