What dog do you see ?
Discussion
Hi all
This is my now 5 month old puppy, I know what breed she is, or atleast I'm 100% certain on her maternal parentage as I never got to meet the dad who was a stud dog.
Reason for my post is the number of people who say "oh, she's a lovely (breed name) my x has one of those" but they are saying the incorrect breed, perhaps her paternal parentage was this breed.
Anyway, reason for the post is to ask the PH dog community, what breed do you see here ?

I did purchase the dog as a cocker, however I was clear that she was bred from someone's pet and raised in a family home rather than purchasing from a breeder.
My other cocker is a 5 generation pedigree from a well respected breeder and I did know that the new one did not have the same "qualifications", as you know puppy prices have gone crazy since covid and since she was purchased as a pet I couldn't justify the additional cost of going to a breeder and instead sought out a dog raised in a good family home who's mum had all the right traits. Similar to the saying when buying a car privately, buy the seller first and the seller was lovely.
She is a great pup and cockers and springers share many trait's, as said above in this instance it was more about finding a good family pet than it being a show dog.
She is atleast 50% cocker and I suspect the other 50% is Springer Which is fine with me.
I might do a dog DNA test just so I can learn a little more.
Thanks everyone for your input, my dog thread on here has got way more responses than any of my car threads lol

OP here, based on the recommendations above I've decided to invest in a DNA test, wisdom DNA kits seem to be well regarded and are £65 on Amazon, as above I'm not too fussed on the results because she's a lovely dog but quite intrigued to see the results.
Kit should arrive on Sunday and results take around 3 weeks

As mentioned we decided to do a DNA test just to satisfy our curiosity. Well the result are in
Basically 75% cocker and 25% Springer, 1 great grandparent on each side being a Springer.
As you know I didn't meet the father only the mother, I would have sworn she was 100% cocker, just goes to show that you can't really determine breed based on looks.
She was bought as a non pedigree pet and if anything I'm super happy with the results, non pedigree dogs tend to have small amounts of various breeds in their DNA so interesting that Nova is a mixture of just 2 breeds.
So she's not 100% cocker, nor is she a sprocker as a sprocker is usually 50% Springer 50% cocker having one parent of each.
Either way she's awesome and for what I cost I'm glad we did the test
