So has anyone on here got horses??
We have 3, they cost a bloody fortune but love them to bits and they are fantastic animals.
We have:
Puzzle, she is a 23 year old thouroghbred cross connemara, used to be do shows and won the Festival Of Champions when she was younger.
Henry, he is a 10 year old thouroghbred, he trained and raised as a racehorse til he was 3 but never carried on for some reason
Basil, he is a 7 year old mini shetland pony. Everyone just calls him Monster as he is such a litte monster, very cheeky but so much fun.
And a group shot

That is a fantastic looking beast! 23 years old you say ... apologies for my ignorance but how long do horses generally live for? Your one looks as if she's in her prime.Cheers,
Eric

Puzzle is quietly my favourite, she is a proper "daddy's girl" and pays far more attention to me than she does to Emma, they all have their own personalities as all animals do.
If she carries on like she is doing (crosses fingers) she will live into her early 30's.
Alot of people are amazed by how good she looks for her age so long may she carry on looking good I hope!

Ha - I imagine most Horsey-ists are sick of the winter and horses, and don't need reminding.
Frozen Roads, Icey Yards, Frozen Menages, Frozen Pipes and Buckets of Water, 4 Rugs a night and morning yada yada.
No doubt spurred back in to action shortly..... and the driving length and breadth of the county to jump over sticks, and tank round fields with Logs will resume
The horses don't like it either.Frozen Roads, Icey Yards, Frozen Menages, Frozen Pipes and Buckets of Water, 4 Rugs a night and morning yada yada.

Hi all,
This is Sower Hill Cream Sherry, one of the ponies which I bred, out of a lovely old dun Connemara cross mare.
My partner has a couple of Shire mares and also a coloured cob which we drive in the summer.
Any more pictures of the Shires? I would love one of those, there is a chap just near where we keep our horses that breeds them.

we have 4 at home:
gigs - 17.2 chaser - won a few times over fences - big engine - big fun over the hills and jumps for fun - got bucked off him in november - thought i was going to need to phone air traffic control
ted - won over hurdles - raced 38 times i think - 18 years young and know his own mind
looney - raced a few times - good turn of foot - spooky....
cobweb - does it all - and much tougher and brighter than the namby pamby thoroughbreds
just getting the horses back out hacking - get all 4 of them lined up at the bottom of a decent hill with gallop potential - and it's as much fun as a 500bhp/ton car or a bike on a trackday - bit more dangerous - also all make excellent pub transport

How are everyones horses doing?
Been a while since we updated this thread.
Ours are all fine.
Puzzle is now 26 years old and still going well. She doesn't get ridden by my wife anymore since her tendon injury 2 years ago but the grandkids of the people who own the farm ride her, she enjoys it.
She is loving the sun, keep seeing her stood napping in the sun with her bottom lip going floppy
Basil is 10 years next month.
We showed him for the first time last month, he came 6th out of 6 but it was fun so looking to do some more shows with him over summer.
Henry is 13 now. Still an idiot, doesn't get ridden as he doesn't like it, just happy to plod around the field having fun.

How long have you had Henry? He looks very much like a horse I bought quite some time ago called Harry who also hated being ridden (interestingly he was an angel when we tried him out but totally different when we got him home ) I didn't keep him very long as someone from another yard took a shine to him and bought him off me. I know he'd had her off nearly every time she rode him and he napped fiercely.
Well, our friend used to work on the racing yard where he was bred and trained, and when they decided to sell him she bought him, think he was aged 4 then. So she has known him all his life. How long have you had Henry? I must mention, he belongs to our friend but we look after him on free loan, so we dont have to pay out to have such a lovely horse.
The foal is lovely!
I must admit Ive never heard of them having Guiness either.
The wife has been learning to drive our Mini Shetland so has recently bought a little cart for him to pull, she is having great fun with it. And has also been helping a friend with show jumping, so getting into that a bit too.....
In fact she "had to" buy some new riding boots on the weekend!

The latest addition to our family arrived today, this is Milly.
She is 5 years old, ex-racehorse. She had an accident where she got stuck in a starting gate and needed surgery, so now won't race. And a racehorse that won't race is worthless, so we gave her a home before she got sent to the slaughterhouse. Joint venture between my wife and the lady who owns the livery yard, we got Milly at no cost but we will half the upkeep costs.
She has settled in very well today, seemed to not be bothered by the other horses and went straight into her stable when led in. The plan is get some meat on her and school her for dressage.

Millie has settled in great. Little things have been a challenge, like walking straight into her stable was new to her and she had never been brushed. But she has put some weight and condition on and is looking fantastic. Just had her shoes taken off last week and was measured for a saddle today, still quite a bit off being ridden yet though. She is 5 years old, ex-racehorse.
