Afternoon all,
Looking for some recommendations of where to go/things to do in Thailand.

We're going in May this year and will fly from London to Bangkok, and hope to spend a night or 2 in Bangkok - anyone recommend what to do?

We have a wedding in Khanom 7 days later, so we're planning on one of the islands for relaxation, luxury and snorkelling/scuba. Initial thoughts were Koh Samui, as we can get a ferry to the mainland, and the weather should be good in May, compared to the likes of Krabbi.
Any recommendations other than Koh Samui?

Appreciate your thoughts.

Cheers all,
We were thinking the same around Bangkok as it's just another city I guess?
We're staying at the Intercontinental but not sure where to fly to afterwards! So many options...
Koh Samui is still winning but some friends will be diving at Koh Tao so may join them for a day or two.

We're just looking for relaxation and beautiful scenery/beaches. Any other alternatives?
I'll do a search for previous threads in the meantime.

Thanks in advance

Thoughts for your trip to Thailand.............

Bangkok.
Take the BTS to Saphan taksin and hire a long tail on the river. Choose one with a big engine on the back and keep throwing 20 baht notes at the driver! these things can pick up some speed. touring around the klongs off the main river can be super interesting.
Use the BTS Skyrail. Its simple to navigate, clean, safe and cheap. Just travel around and jump off, when you see something interesting to look at.
If you are there over a weekend, head up to Chatachak for the market. it's huge and sells EVERYTHING!
Khao san Road for cheap bars and eats in the backpacker area of town.
The Railway restaurant, near the ambassador hotel on Sukhumvit, for some decent Thai food, in a lovely garden just off the madness of Sukhumvit. Often live jazz and big screen football in the garden too, if you're into either.
Patpong, Soi Cowboy and Nana for the typical Bangkok Gogo bar experience. Actually, a couple of good bars on the way into Patpong, often with live bands.
Loads of good restaurants to suit all budgets. If you fancy a blow out, the riverside hotels do great Sunday brunches. Some have ferries from Saphan Taksin.

Islands.
If you head to Samui and have sufficient time, consider taking the train. Overnight sleeper from Bangkok and then coach/ferry to Nathon. Dirt cheap, when compared to the Bangkok Airways ticket, which will be near £200 return, per person.
So much to offer on Samui, so if you want to know more, PM me.
Ko Chang is good. Less developed than Phuket and Samui. However, Phuket and Samui can be whatever you want them to be. Don't be fooled into thinking that they are "ruined" by tourism; there are still amazing places with lots to offer, if you are prepared to do a little research and plan.
Might take you up on that offer - thanks very much for your thoughts, certainly something for us to consider.

Thanks, that's great to know about the Banyan Tree - have our wedding anniversary whilst out there so may treat the Mrs to a night there.

Anyone been to the Intercontinental in Bangkok or Koh Samui?
I have a million IHG points to use, so thinking of staying in their properties, for other days, and explore around for food and drinks.
