Decent place for a meal en route to Gatwick

I'm flying on an early morning flight from Gatwick next month and have a hotel booked at the airport the night before. Rather than eating at the hotel, I'm looking at breaking our journey from the midlands and having dinner somewhere not too far away before we check in.

Any recommendations? Needs to be somewhere north of Gatwick ideally, as that's the direction we'll be coming from. Looking for somewhere family friendly, country pub type of place ideally.
