Anyone used Airbnb in New York?

As per the title, has anyone used Airbnb in New York specifically?

5 of us are going and for less than the outlay on 3 hotel rooms we can get a decent apartment - thinking Brooklyn at the moment as we've stayed in Manhattan previously.

Seems to be lots of scaremongering online about it being illegal in NYC, building managers having powers to turf out tenants, but no real tales of experiences.

Any positive or negative feedback, or dos and donts to ensure what we book is going to be there and available for us to use when we arrive?

Yeah, in light of the above we ended up booking the Franklin Guesthouse in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

Highly recommend staying outside Manhattan now, and with lower costs you dont need to risk air b n b.
