I can see that it's ideal for a SoF stopover,
but it's relatively close to my final destination
so ideally I'd like something little further north.

On the way down we stopped at Dijon and spent the evening, and the next morning there -
We thought it an attractive city, but felt that it was enough time to get the flavour of it (not the mustard ).
On the way back we stayed in Gevrey Chambertin at: https://www.rotisserie-chambertin.com/
nice rooms, very pleasant staff, and an excellent restaurant with a fantastic wine list.
