Perhaps a long shot, but I'm soon to be taking my daughter to an immersive school in mid-France for a week.

With even an EasyJet flight coming in at over £1,000 and a 300km drive from CdG Airport needing a £600 hire car, I've decided to drive...and take my F-Pace SVR. Even with a prodigeous thirst, the c1,200 mile round trip will still come in at around a third of the cost even after the cost of a return Ferry crossing.

It also means I can take my bike, not be restricted on luggage allowance and get to hear a V8 rumbling around mid-France ;-)

Promised my daughter we could call in somewhere for a 2 nights/one day en route home, she wants to do Paris, which is very much on the route.....but it means driving into Paris, and finding a hotel with sensible parking options, especially with the current 'spirited' protests Macron is fuelling - I could park outside of the city and transport it in, but for security issues, especially with the bike, plus the 'arse' factor, I'd rather not....plus I quite fancy the rumbling around the streets of Paris.

Firstly...am I mad? I've not driven in Paris for over 20yrs.

Secondly, anyone know of any decent hotels that are centrally located that have truly secure parking? Last time we had the car in France on a road trip we stayed at the Waldorf Astoria Versailles – Trianon Palace which was beautiful and has on site parking, and is still a great option, but with just 2 nights & one day there, its a little far out/inconvenient.

Thanks

I travel to Paris regularly to visit my office. I stay in one of the hotels around Place de la Madeleine (VERY central with a good range of 3-5 star options) and while none of them have their own car park, there is a large car park underneath the square which charges €40 per 24 hours. Or there's a weekend deal of €66 from 2pm Friday to 9am Monday. You hardly see any very expensive cars on the streets in Paris, because they are all safely tucked up in there!

AH!! I never knew there was a car park there! Underneath the Church?

We've stayed in both the Sofitel Faubourg & Hotel Costes which a really close to there. Great tip, thanks.

Dont forget that you will need a CritAir sticker

To be honest, I lived near La Defense for a year with my UK registered car and only got a CritAir sticker in my last couple of months. I was never stopped or checked at all.
That I did not know..... Thank you!

Despite all the nonsense and falling out, PH's subforums are bloody brilliant sometimes.

Did visit Paris, didn't park there - only because we ended up staying in the 16e and the Hotel had valet parking....far easier!

Great trip though, not much PH friendly content.

First on/off Ferry:

Stopped in Ypres on the first night. Menin Gate plus Belgian Beer/Fries - all amazing

Drove/Rode around Loire Valley/Vineyards

Stocked up as much as new allowances permit

Left car parked in Paris, Yego'd around the Parisian streets

1250 miles at 24mpg....not bad all considering

Looks like a great trip. I've not seen those scooters before, but as a I have a bike licence I've always thought that a bike would be a good way to get around Paris if I ever find myself here on a more permanent basis as the traffic here can be worse than in London. How easy is it to rent one of those? I have a free day in Paris tomorrow and I haven't yet figured out what I'm going to do with it. I know I'll be grabbing a bunch of cheese and charcuterie and it can get heavy. Last time I did that I took the Metro back to my hotel - not a very good option!
Absolute doddle - download the app, load a few euros on your account, app shows where the bikes are. Such brilliant fun.

We've used them in Paris, Malaga, Barcelona, Valencia & Nice.

clap

My daughter's 'go-to' when we stay a city with Yego is to bag one for an afternoon to sightsee. Great fun.
