Hey folks,

We’re looking to book a family holiday for this coming summer and can’t quite decide whether Turkey is suitably safe when compared to, for example, Greek Islands or Cyprus (which is where we’ve been in recent years). I know Turkey isn’t completely trouble free but the core holiday resorts are quite some distance from the Middle East.

I should add that it would be an all inclusive 5* place that we’d rarely leave (probably around Side). It just seems you get a bit more quality and value for money in Turkey, and the Trip Adviser reviews are a notch above comparable Greek / Cypriot hotels.

So, I guess my question is, would you?

Hadn’t really considered the increase in Russian tourism/migration, and how this may influence the ‘feel’ of the place. Hmmm.

Thanks for all the replies folks. Some very interesting comments.

It’s probably worth adding that, as much as it galls me to say it, we’ll probably rarely, if ever, leave the hotel complex. The kids just aren’t interested in getting out and about, they just want to play in the pool and enjoy the facilities (we tried in Paphos last year and they didn’t stop bloody moaning).

As a result, it seems to me that going to a half decent all inclusive resort, you could be pretty much anywhere. That being the case, social conscience and the odd Russian aside, there doesn’t seem to be a significant reason not to entertain turkey if you can get better quality and value for money.

We stayed in the Barut Kemer a couple years ago it was brilliant as AI goes - the specialist restaurants were terrific especially the Italian. Pools for all the family and right on the beach. We went with TUI and benefited from a couple of cancellations and the bonuses one got from them cancelling.

In fact it was 2020 so a bit longer ago than two years. The only drama was the small waiting room at the gate for the return flight - no social distancing but I didn't catch covid from it so all good!!

I would again without hesitation. Lovely place.
That’s good to know, thank you. I thought for a moment that was the hotel we’re interested in but it seems not. We’re looking at the Barut Hemera.
