Penny, I know this may be hard to swallow, but sometimes a blow job goes a long way, reassurance wise.

So, after a 5 1/2 year relationship I suddenly find myself here.

We're literally just going through splitting up now - sorting all the bits and bobs, but it's a very mutual decision and is certainly not going to be gone back on. A real real shame, we're both sad of course, but determined to get on as quickly as possible.

As such, I find myself looking at dating sites. My oh my! I want to make myself a profile to see where the lie of the land is, as it were, but it seems a mine field.

I'm 31, confidence is not exactly an issue (those that know me will know that biggrin) and I've been fairly lucky in the past with stuff like this (my last dating type thing was 5 1/2yrs ago at a speed dating event and I got "yes" from every girl bar one, so fingers crossed I've not changed too much!).

But urrrmmmmm, well - here I am. My name's Tony and I'm single.
Sorry to hear it fella.

Sadly, times have moved on, and you will have to have read all of 'Twilight', 'The Hunger Games' and '50 Shades Of Grey' to hold a conversation.

I saw The Hunger Games film - I wonder if that counts?

I'll 'grieve' obviously, but I won't do it stuck at home on my own every evening left-handed-mouse-using endlessly over pics of my ex.
If you're not going to use them, could you forward them to me?

Ta.

I have always felt like a social misfit; I don't necessarily blame other people for this. biggrin
I generally get on ok with people, but that's because I monitor relationships quite carefully to try to conform. In some ways this has been an advantage, as because I am more socially aware than most, I tend to be the person that people confide in, and am oddly in demand when people try to pick their office mates at work (we're all moving to a different location), etc. So being weird isn't always a problem. biggrin

It can be in relationships though - where someone is constantly wanting you to be something you are not - and making your life difficult as a consequence.
That sounds very much like you're on the ASD spectrum.

No, I'm not.
No learning difficulties are to blame, sadly.
ASD is behavioural, not learning.

Yes, you're right.
I just tend to focus on learning difficulties aspects as education's my line of work, and Aspergers in particular has a serious effect. (But I'm still not ASD spectrum).

I freely admit to being below standard, JAYB, you don't have to reinforce it. biggrin
As the parent of an Aspie child, I would be the last person to consider such below standard.

I had trouble with the ‘other’ kind of talk. Telling all the girls I was dating (definitely not exclusively) that I wan’t seeing them any more because I’d met someone I wanted to settle down with. I think I got a bit cynical and cold about it by the time I made it to the last one or two. Really didn’t mean to …
