Need help catching cowardly keyers

I live in a quiet, respectable area, the estate I live on is quiet with no through roads, only estate traffic. Parking isn't an issue really, except for weekends when friends & family come round, then the cul-de-sac can get busy, but nothing stupid.

Over the last few months, cars parked at the end of the road have been suffering from being keyed, someone broke off my rear reg plate, and various other acts of vandalism have taken place.....

Police are useless as expected, and who can blame them as there are speed traps that need to be set up to catch people going to work..

Anyway, I'm in need of a method of catching these cretins in the act, I'm thinking the best method would be a camera with a long life battery hidden somewhere, however my house is just too far away to be viable.

Any suggestions for a set up that could be left alone for a few days, plus decent quality to identify the offenders?

Overnight seems to be the main issue. Someone is doing it deliberately, methodically, as there is no reason for anyone to use the area of street where the cars are parked except for entering the cul-de-sac for the 6 properties in it.
